Gift Ideas for poor creative souls (6) You know how it goes, a friend calls you and invites you to dinner at the last minute. OMG! What gift can you take?! You scrabble around the cupboards trying to find a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine but find that most of the chocolates have been eaten and the wine has gone. I thought this was a wonderful idea. You could make a few of these and keep them to one side for just such an occasion. Supplies : Patterned paper-one 12 x 12" sheet. Everyday Mini Album This mini album was really fun to make. Like my previous File Folder Album using this collection, the photos in the album were all taken by my husband on his phone on a dull and rainy day. The photos are never going to win any photography prizes – but they capture the fun of the day perfectly and I wouldn’t have it any other way! The photos are never going to win any photography prizes – but they capture the fun of the day perfectly and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I have cropped the photos heavily and added a retro photo effect and polaroid frame using picmonkey – free online here. Tamara Tripodi: How-To: Recycled Mint Tins with Washi Tape and Mod Podge -
I love a good upcycling craft, I love little storage containers, and I also love Washi Tape. This, my friends, is therefore my “Trifecta” of crafting- a project that recycles mint tins- like the ones for Altoids- into happy little storage tins! To make them, you’ll need: Recycled mint tin (I used Altoids)Sandpaper/spraypaint (optional)Mod Podge (I like matte)Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (I used silver- it has glitter in it)Washi TapePaper or chipboard embellishments if desired First, if you like, you can scuff up the tin with the sandpaper and give it a base coat of spray paint. You can also use some needle-nose pliers and separate the top from the bottom of the tin- but frankly, I’m WAY too lazy for that.
I just put a quick coat of Gesso on the top of my tin and let it dry for 10 minutes. You’re going to decoupage the Washi Tape down anyway, but a coat of Gesso/white paint will keep the colors on the tin from showing through the translucent tape. Trim away the excess with a craft knife. Hundreds of Paper Cones Create Colorful Cave Installation. Paper and caves aren’t typically synonymous. But there’s something seriously intriguing about this paper cave installation in Milan’s “Verger” restaurant-slash-kitchen. Dreamt up by Wendy Plomp and Edhv– this is so seemingly simple and colorful while whisking you away to another world. There are varying shapes, sizes and colors all attached to the ceiling, walls and flooring of Verger to mimic the look of old limestone caves and the icicles that vary throughout the natural built wonders.
At a glance, some of these images could be mistaken for anything from a Missoni print to a batch of freshly sharpened colored pencils. Either way, Wendy has us hooked on her innovation and ability to create something so sophisticated from the traditional party hat shape. Creating colorful bookcovers with AstroBrights Paper! BySusan MyersonAugust 2, 2012 With school time just around the corner, I came up with a school craft project that incorporates brightly colored paper.
After all, a long school day could certainly use some sunshine! I created fun book covers using the technique called Iris Folding! The plan was to revamp the old version of the book cover. You know, the one that is made from a grocery bag? For this project I used: Several sheets of different colors of bright colored cardstock A paper grocery bagGlue StickTacky GlueScissors Begin by cutting your paper bag open as shown, and then cut off the bottom flap, so that you have one large sheet of paper.
With printed side of the grocery bag up, place the book on top and fold down the top and bottom edges of the paper to match the top and bottom of the book. Fold one end of the paper and slide the front cover of the book into the open end until the edge of the cover meets your fold. Now lets create some beautiful Iris Paper Folds! Pages: 1 2 3. Spring Scrapbook Paper Tree.
Hello fellow crafters! Tristin and I were invited to be today's featured guest blogger over at Everyday Mom Ideas! We were thrilled with this wonderful opportunity, and wanted to share with the readers over there one of our trees from the collection we're currently doing. This second tree is very similar to the first one. I'm sorry! I promise, the next ones will be more diverse. But the materials used in this tree are very different and it is a lot easier to overall construct. So what are you waiting for? (Since this is a guest post on a different blog, and the concept is similar to the first tree.. Thanks, Julia, for having us on your blog! DIY Washi Tape Laptop Keyboard.
Look whose little old MacBook got a facelift this weekend! I spotted this idea from minifanfan on Making It Lovely last week and just had to give it my own spin. I purchased my Japanese washi tape from Le Box Boutique on Etsy. There are hundreds of washi tape sellers but I chose Le Box because they allow you to purchase tape by the foot rather than having to purchase the entire roll. They were very easy to interact with and I would definitely recommend them if you’re looking to purchase washi tape!
I chose these ten patterns but only ended up using eight of them on my keyboard. I first thoroughly cleaned my keyboard with rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or oil that might keep the tape from sticking. I originally wanted to do all the keys, including the small keys in the top row, but the tape seemed to have a harder time sticking to the small keys. This project was a bit tedious but simple – perfect for a few hours in front of the tv. What do you think? Tagged as: craft, diy, tutorial. DIY+Pregnant Brain.
Without getting into too many details-the baby is going to be a little longer than we thought. We were afraid that she was going to be early, and now that she isn't, I sort of feel like I'm living life in limbo.I don't know if it's just me, or women in general, who find the strangest tasks to pass time until a baby arrives. Suddenly, the weirdest things pop on to our 'to do' lists, and become oddly important. And the tasks seem to grow weirder and weirder with each baby. Right before I had Reuben, for some reason, I decided that my living room futon needed a new cover. Not great timing, but not so strange. Before I had Zeke, I needed to get all my Christmas cards done early-not just written, that wasn't good enough.
My mom also contributes to this fun little routine-I think that she nests right along with us. That, and that's what her Mom always did to "help". Well, maybe not stranger than the salad dressing. Mom had suddenly decided that it was time to pair my family's odd socks. How To Make A Stylish Photo Frame For Several Photos. Here is a simple yet stylish photo frame that can accomodate quite many photos at once.
The idea is very simple. Fasten twines on the empty frame and hang photos using clothes pins on them. You can use a frame you bought or a frame you made by yourself. To make it you just need to find some wood strips, sand them, paint or stain them and fasten together with the staples and nails. Yes, everything is as simple as it sounds. Say It With A ♥ A Due Colore I still can’t get over how Alberto Seveso can make something as simple as ink in water look so captivating.

The Designer Pad - Straight To The&HeART. I consider myself a very crafty person and love everything handmade. I'm always delighted to see how others use their creativity to transform everyday materials into something unexpected and beautiful. When I stumbled upon these lovely heart pieces in Bloesem I was immediately seduced by them, especially by their sculptural vive. These personalized handmade Hearts are the creation of Brit artist Veronika, founder of the design studio Sarah & Bendrix. The funny thing is that it all started with a piece she made for a friend as a wedding present and everyone started asking about the artist...and the rest is history. You can tell she puts a lot of love, care and attention in each one of her creations. I'm telling you, one of these little treasures will make a super Valentine's Day gift for that special someone in your life.
Wind-up paper butterflies are my fave (guest post from amelia) I had a baby so I’ve invited some fave guests to take over for me while I spend time with the little guy. Today’s post is from super crafter and cute mom, Amelia of The Homebook. Growing up, I had an aunt who lived in Canada. Every year for my birthday she’d send me a card and a fancy little gift. She always found the neatest things! One year, when I was maybe 10 or 11, she sent me another card—and when I opened it up, a paper butterfly fluttered out of the card. It was magical!
I made my butterflies into Monarchs, but you could use different materials to create any sort of colorful butterfly. Materials: You’ll need heavy cardstock, 24 gauge wire, silicone rubber bands (I found mine in the hair aisle at Walgreens) needle-nose pliers, scissors, tape, a paintbrush, a black marker, and a white ink pen. Step 1: Measure and cut your wire. Step 2: Find the center of the longer wire. Step 5: Find the center of the shorter wire, and wrap it around the base of the paintbrush. Gift Ideas for Poor Creative Souls (10) Posted by: Cathy on May 22, 2012 Tagged in: Untagged I just loved this Paint swatch chandelier! What a wonderful idea and those paint swatches you can pick up for free. You can use an old lampshade and use the frame or pick up an old one from the thrift store. You can also purchase them new in art and crafts shops but recycling makes this project more fun.
These are the materials you'll need: - paint swatches in the same tones or you can use multi-colored if you prefer - wire frame from old lampshade (this will hang upside down) - large circular hole puncher - cellotape - cotton thread - scissors Start punching your circles from your paint swatches. Lay out your paint medallions, coloured side down, in the desired order. Turn your lamp shade upside down and fasten it somewhere where it can hang freely. The full tutorial can be seen here.
