Windows Phone owners who happen to live in Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Croatia, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Venezuela, here is some good news for you, and hopefully it will be able to perk you up through the middle of the week as the weekend looms in the horizon. Microsoft has announced that they will be opening up the Marketplace in those countries, so may the downloading begin! This would mean the aforementioned 13 countries will be joining Argentina, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, and the Philippines for some Marketplace goodness, bringing the total number of Marketplace storefronts to 54. Of course, Microsoft is definitely not going to stop here, as they have plans outlined for the UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Israel, Thailand, and Vietnam in the near future. This would definitely mean the 70,000 plus apps available on the Marketplace will not stay that way for long with the opening up of new markets.
http://www.gizmag.com/ Neurons, the nerve cells that send and receive electrical signals within the body, are one of those things that most of us probably don’t give a lot of thought to. Educational entrepreneurs Timothy Marzullo and Gregory Gage, however, think about them a lot. They think about them so much, in fact, that they’ve designed a gadget that lets anyone listen to the neural electrical activity of bugs, and conduct a series of interesting experiments. It’s called the SpikerBox, and oh yeah – in order to use it, you have to take the leg off of a cockroach. Read More

http://mashable.com/2011/03/10/node-js/ The Web Development Series is supported by Rackspace , the better way to do hosting. Learn more about Rackspace’s hosting solutions here . On the 20th floor of a San Francisco skyscraper, a handful of developers are working on a new technology that’s changing the way real-time web apps are built and how they scale. This technology, called Node.js , is being hailed as “the new Ruby on Rails” by some in the developer community. But it’s not a magic bullet, nor is it appropriate for all programming scenarios. Joyent , an SF-based cloud software company, is sponsoring the growth and development of Node.

Why Everyone Is Talking About Node

The Spark of Genius Series highlights a unique feature of startups and is made possible by Microsoft BizSpark. If you would like to have your startup considered for inclusion, please see the details here. Name: Plukka Quick Pitch: Social shopping with a group buying twist — more jewelry buyers means a lower price for everyone. Genius Idea: Applying the group-buying model to the manufacturing process, not just the final product. Today’s group buying sites often exist to get rid of leftover inventory from last season; both the designer and the website get a cut, while you get the last season’s threads for half the price, three months late.

TechStars Launches Accelerato.rs, A Common App For Startups And A Results Tracker For Accelerators | TechCrunch

For a young startup, sometimes you want any funding you can get. For an incubator program, sometimes any startup is what you’re looking for. Finding each other won’t necessarily make either one successful, but more pairings might help overall. http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/28/techstars-launches-accelerato-rs/

There were plenty of other Pictionary-like games in the iTunes app store before OMGPOP’s Draw Something. But the secret ingredient behind Draw Something’s runaway success was its very social, asynchronous gameplay. Most independent game designers don’t necessarily have the extra manpower to build an engine that supports this. That’s where an Israeli startup called Nextpeer comes in. It’s kind of like the next generation of OpenFeint, a mobile-social gaming network that was acquired by Japanese gaming giant GREE for $104 million last year. Game designers can integrate Nextpeer’s SDK to let their players compete against each other. http://techcrunch.com/startups/

[Journalists] seem to feel let down when they discover that the real people aren't anything like the way they so relentlessly portray us; as if, since they've gone to the trouble of inventing extravagant caricatures of us, we should at least have the decency to live up to them in real life. http://richarddawkins.net/

15 Entrepreneur Blogs Worth Reading - Independent Street - WSJ

By Wendy Bounds The best entrepreneur blogs – and often the most successful ones — do more than just promote the entrepreneurs or their projects. Star power can draw attention, but it won’t sustain it if the blog doesn’’t “give.”
The Raspberry Pi is a $25 computer that is powerful enough to run Quake 3, a pretty intense 3D video game. It plugs straight into a TV with an HDMI output and it's designed to be cheap enough that anyone can buy. So why is the Raspberry Pi foundation, the organization behind this charming device, making the computers in the first place? We spoke with Eben Upton, executive director of the Raspberry Pi foundation to find out why. Here's what we learned:

Teleportation and forcefields possible within decades, says Professor Michio Kaku - Telegraph

Teleportation, telepathy, forcefields and invisibility are Class 1 impossibilities, meaning they are likely to be realisable within a few decades or at most a century. Teleportation is likely to be achieved through "quantum entanglement", a property that allows connections to be formed – and information transmitted - between particles many miles apart. Similarly, telepathy will be made possible by improved MRI machines that can effectively read minds, and electrodes that can then pass the information into the brains of other humans. Invisibility will probably be achieved using a recently-built "metamaterial" capable of bending light rays, he argues.
