In the first year of the Graduate School, doctoral students select one major research area and take courses totalling 18 ECTS in this area. In their selected minor research area, courses totalling 6 ECTS are taken. Furthermore, one doctoral seminar (7 ECTS) must be passed. In the second and third years, students take a further three doctoral seminars (each to the value of 7 ECTS). In at least two of the seminars, they are expected to produce a research paper. The Graduate School regularly offers specialised doctoral workshops, often jointly with faculty from the local partner universities.
