SoftControlers. SoftControlers. IGEPv2. Single-board microcontroller. A single-board microcontroller is a microcontroller built onto a single printed circuit board.

Single-board microcontroller

This board provides all of the circuitry necessary for a useful control task: microprocessor, I/O circuits, clock generator, RAM, stored program memory and any support ICs necessary. The intention is that the board is immediately useful to an application developer, without them needing to spend time and effort in developing the controller hardware. As they are usually low-cost hardware, and have an especially low capital cost for development, single-board microcontrollers have long been popular in education. They are also a popular means for developers to gain hands-on experience with a new processor family. Origins[edit] Single-board microcontrollers appeared in the late 1970s when the first generations of microprocessors, such as the 6502 and the Z80,[1] made it practical to build an entire controller on a single board, and affordable to dedicate a computer to a relatively minor task.

General comparison[edit] Notes ^Price range : approximate price as of August 2014, grouped in these intervals: Lowest cost, corresponding to 0-49 USD;Low cost, corresponding to 50-79 USD;Medium cost, corresponding to 80-119 USD;High cost, corresponding to 120-169 USD;Highest cost, corresponding to 170 USD and higher. CPU, GPU, memory[edit] I/O interfaces and ports[edit] Notes ^Utilite mSATA : the mSATA slot in Utilite is considered non-user-serviceable and the procedure to access it causes the warranty to be void.[60][61] Audiovisual interfaces[edit] ^DVI compatible HDMI signal can be converted to DVI by passive adapter. Single-board computer

The "dyna-micro"/"MMD-1" was the world's first true single board computer. The MMD-1 had all components on a single printed circuit board, including memory, I/O, user input device, and a display. Nothing external to the single board except power was required to both program and run the MMD-1. Creating a $99 parallel computing machine is just as hard as it sounds. Ten months ago, the chipmaker Adapteva unveiled a bold quest—to create a Raspberry Pi-sized computer that can perform the same types of tasks typically reserved for supercomputers.

And... they wanted to sell it for only $99. A successful Kickstarter project raised nearly $900,000 for the so-called "Parallella," and the company got to work with a goal of shipping the first devices by February 2013 and the rest by May 2013. As so often happens, the deadlines slipped, but Adapteva has done what it set out to do. Last week, the company shipped the first 40 Parallellas and says it will ship all 6,300 computers ordered through the Kickstarter by the end of August. Anyone who didn't back the Kickstarter can now pre-order for delivery in October. The first version of the board was finished in January, but it cost $150 to produce. Adapteva called Parallella "A Supercomputer For Everyone" in the title of its Kickstarter. "It's like a blank canvas for Boolean logic," Olofsson said. Big.LITTLE Processing. Single Board Computers. The SCS750 combines the latest generation of IBM PowerPC® processor with large amounts of volatile and non-volatile storage and a variety of interfaces in an industry standard 6u cPCI form factor. Any radiation upset (SEU) is transparently corrected. The user never has to worry about executing a bad instruction or accessing corrupt information. Software development is simplified by using the industry standard VxWorks operating environment.

The SCS750’s powerful processing capability and high availability make it the ideal choice for data processing or spacecraft control applications.
