9 Architectural Photography Tips. Facebook. A 3-D Typeface That Morphs Into Every Letter Of The Alphabet. Since the advent of cuneiform, we’ve designed written language to be a two-dimensional medium. Whether we’ve scribbled across a flat tablet or a piece of binder paper, we haven’t had to alter our scripts in any fundamental way. Yet as 3-D eye-tracking displays become part of the norm, it’s worth asking, should we invest more thought into the potential of 3-D typefaces? Buchstabengewitter, translating to “Letter Storm,” is a project by typographer Ingo Italic (subtle!)

From the Berlin studio Letters Are My Friends. The project reinterprets our written language in true, 3-D space. “If something has to be readable for the human eye it is always best to display it on a flat, two-dimensional surface,” Italic concedes. Italic starts with a spherical chunk of strings. But one of the neatest parts of Buchstabengewitter is that it appears to play in both 2-D and 3-D spaces. [Hat tip: Creative Applications]

Creating Seamless Textures In Illustrator. I think you’ll all agree that Illustrator is just plain awesome, and with the continual improvements we see with each new version, it keeps getting better and better. Previously, I created seamless textures for typography and seamless backgrounds for my web and illustration projects with Photoshop. But we’ve seen large improvements with the Appearance panel in more recent versions of Illustrator, so now I create these textures and backgrounds solely in Illustrator–it’s actually super easy! So in today’s tutorial, I’ll walk you through the steps on how to create a variety of seamless textures and backgrounds all in Adobe Illustrator. Tutorial Details: Seamless Textures and Seamless Backgrounds Program : Adobe Illustrator CC (You should be able to create this tutorial in CS4+ but some of the tutorial images might look different.)Difficulty: Beginner/IntermediateTopics Covered: Appearance Panel, Effects, Pattern Fills, Graphic StylesEstimated Completion Time: 15-20 minutes each Raster Effects.

The Chromatic Typewriter. Washington-based painter Tyree Callahan modified a 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter, replacing the letters and keys with color pads and hued labels to create a functional “painting” device called the Chromatic Typewriter. Callahan submitted the beautiful typewriter as part of the 2012 West Prize competition, an annual art prize that’s determined by popular vote. I don’t know how practical painting an image with a color typewriter is, but if Keira Rathbone can do it… (via dark silence in suburbia)
