Shah studies how people make decisions when resources are scarce. In one line of work, he focuses on the psychology that arises when people experience scarcity of more tangible resources, such as money or time. In another line of work, he focuses on how people make decisions with limited cognitive resources. His research has appeared in the Science, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, and Psychological Bulletin, among other journals.

Shah received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and English literature from Washington University in St. 2013 - 2014 Course Schedule Other Interests Cooking, brewing, eating. Research Activities I am interested in how decision-makers deal with limited resources. Shah, A. Noam Chomsky. Avram Noam Chomsky (/ˈnoʊm ˈtʃɒmski/; born December 7, 1928) is an American linguist, philosopher,[21][22] cognitive scientist, logician,[23][24][25] political commentator and anarcho-syndicalist activist.

Sometimes described as the "father of modern linguistics",[26][27] Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy.[21] He has spent most of his career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he is currently Professor Emeritus, and has authored over 100 books. He has been described as a prominent cultural figure, and was voted the "world's top public intellectual" in a 2005 poll.[28] Born to a middle-class Ashkenazi Jewish family in Philadelphia, Chomsky developed an early interest in anarchism from relatives in New York City.

He later undertook studies in linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained his BA, MA, and PhD, while from 1951 to 1955 he was appointed to Harvard University's Society of Fellows. Early life Childhood: 1928–45. C. Forbes Dewey, Jr. Professor Dewey is a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department and holds joint appointments in the Division of Biological Engineering and the Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He is also Co-Director of the International Consortium for Medical Imaging Technology (ICMIT) whose goal is the development and promotion of advanced technology for medical imaging. Professor Dewey's research interests include fluids mechanics, cell dynamics and modeling, biomedical imaging, medical informatics, and instrumentation. Research: Probing the effects of mechanical forces on living cells The primary medical problem that the Dewey research group investigates is atherosclerosis. The lumen of the arterial wall is lined with endothelial cells that respond to the mechanical forces of blood flowing through the arteries.

In our in vitro model system, application of fluid shear force that is comparable to vascular blood flow in vivo induces a major transient decrease in polymerization. Yu Yao. One of the best strategies for avoiding being eaten by predators is to hide in plain sight. But there's camouflage and there is camouflage. These species go beyond just blending into the background, they practically become one with it, disguising themselves so well as leaves that you could spend hours looking at a tree without realizing you're looking at more than just the tree itself!

Leaf-mimicking insects Insects are old hats at mimicking leaves to fool predators. In fact, the strategy may have begun as far back at 47 million years ago and hasn't changed a whole lot since then. After all, if you've already made yourself look like a leaf, the bulk of the evolutionary work is done. Some of the more well known leaf-mimicking insects include some katydids, praying mantis, butterflies and moths.
