October 18th, 2011 by: Shane McGlaun This is the most awesome, intense, realistic (and painful) video game simulator I have ever seen. It’s not a fancy driving or flight simulator; this is a simulator for FPS games. It looks like you could train real soldiers in this thing. The dome screen uses five HD resolution projectors and a lot more. The Ultimate FPS Simulator rig was set up for UK Channel 5′s The Gadget Show .
A physics engine is a simulator used to create a virtual environment that incorporates laws from the physical world. That virtual environment can include objects with accompanying forces applied to them (such as gravity) in addition to interactions between objects, such as collisions. A physics engine simulates Newtonian physics in a simulated environment and manages those forces and interactions. One of the most advertised applications of a physics engine is in the entertainment and game industry (see Figure 1 ), where the physics engine provides a real-time simulation of the game environment (including the player and other objects that may be present).
For much of gaming history, publishers tossed around the word "realistic" as if it were a synonym for "quality." Some developers seemed to believe games would only be perfect once they had replicated every bowel movement, popped zit, and sweaty handshake found in real life. As you may imagine, hilariously awful missteps ensued. Here are six of the worst offenses committed in the name of "videogame realism." 6.) Dragonheart: Fire & Steel – The Stamina Bar

It's not unusual to be reflective at the end of the year.
Do you ever get that feeling, when playing games, that you really should be doing something more edifying with your life. I do, usually at about three in the morning after a marathon session of slaughtering undead in Sacred 2 . It is a sad fact that most the computer games I play are about as intellectually stimulating as a fart.
So I know at least a few of you out there are fellow Starcraft 2 players like myself. But for the uninitiated, “cheese” is a term where someone uses an incredibly unorthodox tactic to try and get an early win in a game, and it’s generally frowned upon as being a dick move in the game. But it’s not illegal to be a dick on the internet, as that’s proven to me every day, and so it will always keep happening.
Oh crap, I skipped a day of Portal 2 related content this week? Well I suppose I’d better make up for it by posting a whole damn gallery of the stuff. But seriously, this poster series is definitely worth featuring, and contains some really cool designs by Flickr-ist wd.farmer . Most of them are from the section of the game where *spoilers* you descend to the depths of Aperture and discover Cave Johnson’s lost scientific playground.
Donkey Kong , gaming's favorite simian hero, has made a huge impact in pop culture over the past few decades. Still going strong, the ape even recently starred in the hit title, Donkey Kong Kountry Returns for the Wii. Whether he's hurling barrels at a construction site, smashing them to rescue his monkey pal (Diddy Kong) , or blasting himself out of them - The famed gorilla has become a black belt at all forms of barrel usage.
