NGT is Not Satisfied with up Govt’s Reply on New Wood Industry Licenses, Directs to File a Compliance Report in a Month. FIPPI Seeks Not to Make Bis Certification Compulsory for Melamine and Phenol. Federation of Indian Plywood and Panel Industry (FIPPI) has requested to the ministry of chemical & fertilizers for immediate intervention to ensure due process of law is followed and decisions are not taken haste while applying Compulsory BIS Registration Scheme in respect of Melamine BIS 15623:2005 and Phenol BIS 538:2000.
The representation was made by Shri Sajjan Bhajanka President of FIPPI - an apex body representing several manufacturers spread across the country and engaged in manufacturing of Plywood, Doors, MDF Board, Particle Board and Decorative Laminates, etc. Birch-Plywood Price Drops by 10%, Indian Buyers to Order Big Volumes from Russia. Reports from Russia plywood industry suggested that 'Birch Plywood prices' have reduced by 10 to 13 % because the demand has slumped down in international market.
The downward trend in Birch plywood prices began quite ago during Nov - Dec 2018. The Russian plywood manufacturers found themselves facing a slump in deliveries of laminated boards to Turkey due to global conflicts and slowing economy. The desired effect on prices did not show up though big volumes largely remained absent. However the demand stagnated and volumes decreased in other core markets of Europe and overseas that hit the birch plywood manufacturers further.
Post March 2019, the pressure build up led to price softening as majority of Russian units continued production. Birch plywood is increasingly getting popular among Indian buyers because of its perfectly calibrated property, uniformity at every layer and quality levels of European standard. NGT to Hear UP Forest Dept’s Plea on New Licenses of Wood Units on 6th August. After being questioned by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the new license issued for establishing wood based industries in Uttar Pradesh, the UP Forest department has constituted a High Power Committee in this issue.
This Committee will present its detailed report to the NGT on July 15. Based on this report, the matter will be heard by the NGT on 6th August 2019. Talking to The Ply Reporter, Mr MP Singh, Chief Forest Conservator, UP Forest Department said that the detail report is being prepared by the new committee, which is in process. This High Power Committee has been constituted under the leadership of Kalpana Awasthi, Principal Secretary Forest and Mr. Despite Slowdown Film Face Ply Performs Better Than Plywood. The slow and steady rise in presence of branded WPC-PVC boards reflect the change in dealer’s perception. The price gap between branded PVC boards and unbranded PVC boards has narrowed down that is helping the organized brands to spread its acceptance and market presence. The customers preference and GST bill material has turned tides in favor of good quality products, though it is just the beginning on a new curve. Market reports reflect that brands like Alstone, Amulya and Floresta, are once again gaining new grounds after a weal patch of two years when cheap quality boards had taken over the market by price and KG level factors. The brands from the house of Green ply and Century ply, too are reported to be receiving gains due to the brand goodwill among customers.
Govt. Issues Safeguard Investigation Notice on ‘Import of Phenol’ India’s phenol manufacturing companies, Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd and Deepak Phenolics Ltd have filed an application for assessment of Safeguard Customs Tariff alleging increased imports of “Phenol” causing serious injury to the domestic industry.
With an 87% of the total production of Phenol in India, the major companies have sought safeguard measures to protect the domestic industry from the import injury. After examining the application, the Director-General has found the claims realistic, and has thereby initiated a safeguard investigation pursuant to rule 5 of the Safeguard rules, 1997. The views are sought by all interested parties within a period of 30 days from the date of the notice i.e 23rd August 2019.
