As ideias implicam estudo e reflexão. Tudo depende do autor que "vê e tem" a ideia e a sabe aplicar. People with ideas may not have the business sense to see its potential or limitations, or the idea may lack data and clarity so no one sees its value when presented to management. An ‘Idea-Enhancement Innovation Program’ minimizes these problems by providing idea-people with the means to develop and evaluate their own idea before presentation to management, and by enabling management to make informed decisions about the idea. I interviewed the head of ‘idea-improvement innovation programs’ in three Fortune-500 corporations to discover why they were successful.

They remain anonymous. These innovation programs solicit ideas, enhance them, and then persuade management to support the idea with resources. In other words, these idea-enhancing programs enable people to dress up their idea before review by senior management who provide the resources for further development. Many companies overlook the ability of productive rivalry to stimulate innovation. That could be a loss: Not only has it been a powerful contributor to innovation in the past, but according to Mark Little, the director of General Electric’s Global Research Group, rivalry also has made a difference in his company’s efforts to develop better aircraft engines, composite materials, and power generation equipment.

Taken together, the two articles that follow suggest that innovation-minded executives whose R&D groups don’t employ rivalry should be looking for more opportunities to form teams, appreciate differences in their respective approaches, and conduct market tests. One such recent experiment I called “choose your own presentation.” I looked back at the 20 or so talks that I’d given this past year, and I tried to group material into the questions that I most commonly get asked. I ended up with 31 questions. I thought it would be helpful to provide the list of 31 questions, and my one sentence perspective on each question, as it dovetails with my current book project (tentatively titled, The Little Black Book of Innovation.) How do you define innovation? I would love to hear any other questions that are on your minds as I work with my colleagues to think about our research agenda for 2011 and beyond. 10 business models that rocked 2010 - by @nickdemey (boardofinnovation.com)
