Et ceux qui utilisent intensivement Twitter sont bien loin de considérer la visibilité de leurs tweets comme un frein ou une menace. User-base growth is slowing in Japan and Korea, yet Japan remains one of the most active countries. In June 2012, the top three cities by number of tweets were Jakarta, Tokyo and London. Semiocast has analyzed 517 million of Twitter user profiles created before July 1st 2012 as well as a sample of 1.058 billion public tweets posted from June 1st to June 30th 2012. Drawing from its experience with previous studies, Semiocast used its proprietary platform, databases and tools to process user profiles in order to determine the location of each user using all available information: free-form location declared in user profile, time zone, language used to post tweets and GPS coordinates for the very few concerned tweets. According to a September 2012 GlobalWebIndex report, there were 11.7 million active Twitter users in Mexico during Q2 of this year.

GlobalWebIndex defined active Twitter users as those who used or contributed to the platform at least once a month using any device. By comparison, Mente Digital estimated there were 11.9 million Twitter users in Mexico in June 2012, of which 8.3 million were active users. The Mexico City-based social media agency defined active Twitter users as brand or personal Twitter accounts used at least once in the last 60 days, and discounted bots. Other results of the GlobalWebIndex study confirmed Twitter’s relevance. During Q2 2012, 44% of users in Mexico shared personal photos via Twitter, trailing only China (61%) and India (49%) among the nations included in the report. No Sign of Slowing Web Uptake in India. The percentage of individuals in India who use the internet will remain a small 8.9% this year, according to eMarketer estimates.

But given that India holds a population of 1.2 billion people, that fraction translates to a significant number of people going online—107.3 million, to be precise. And consumers in India show no signs of slowing their migration online, according to the August 2012 comScore report, “The Rise of India’s Digital Consumer and What It Means for the Future.” The study found that, among all BRIC countries, India had the sharpest growth in unique website visitors between 2011 and 2012, at 41%, more than double the growth rate in second-place Russia. And India’s online growth still has some distance to go before it hits a ceiling, since most of its online category stats underindex when compared to global averages.

When it came to online payments, consumers in India preferred debit cards, which were used in 58% of transactions in Q2 2012. Twitter Increases Share of Social Ad Revenues. Twitter is continuing to grow worldwide ad revenues at a rapid pace, eMarketer estimates, with 106.7% growth predicted for this year.

Twitter Increases Share of Social Ad Revenues

That may seem like a steep drop after the above-200% growth seen in 2011, but throughout eMarketer’s forecast period the microblogging service is expected to maintain growth in the high double digits, reaching $807.5 million in ad revenues worldwide by 2014. eMarketer expects an increasing share of Twitter’s total revenues to come from advertising from 2011 through the end of the forecast period, since the revenue potential for deals with search engines and other partner sites—once the service’s only source of revenues—can only go so high, whereas the potential for selling more ads remains large and scalable.

Twitter has increased its efforts to sell advertising outside the US, and the US portion of total ad revenues is expected to drop correspondingly, from 96% last year to 90% this year and just 79% by 2014.
