30 Very Funny Books. It's a dreary day, so I thought I'd indulge myself and come up with a list of my favorite comedies.

30 Very Funny Books

A caveat, however: this is not a fancy English-professor-y list of the finest, most exquisitely crafted, most erudite or intellectually sophisticated works on paper in the language. This is a list of the books that make me laugh until my mascara starts to run. These are books to read over your first cup of coffee or just before you go to sleep . Remember: a day you've laughed is day you haven't wasted--even if you didn't get out of bed. Some days you need a jump-start to get to the funny parts of life. You've probably heard of most of these titles, and maybe you've already read several of them. You ready? 1. 2. 11 Books You Should Read If You’re A Woman In Your 20s. According to Love Twenty, women in their twenties are supposed to read diet books and novels about shopping.

I disagree. Here are my suggestions for novels you should read if you’re a woman in your twenties. 1. The Awakening by Kate Chopin (1899) This classic novel about female sexuality and personal exploration during the turn of the century is one of the first novels to explore casual sex on the part of a woman — a married woman. 2. By Sarah Hall (2007) You should read at least one dystopian novel in your twenties, if only for the reminder that everything could go to shit in a matter of years. 3. By Gillian Flynn (2012) This book is a journey into the musings of a female psychopath. 4. By Jill Grimes (2008) As the only practical book on my list, Seductive Delusions exposes common misconceptions and fallacies about STDs. 5.

By Margaret Mitchell (1936) Written about the Civil War from a Southerner’s point of view, Gone with the Wind is a beautiful love story. 6. By Toni Morrison (1970) 7. 8. Well, At Least There Was Good Stuff to Read: The Books of the Decade. Anybody remember how anxious and thrilled we were in those last months of the 20th century?

Well, At Least There Was Good Stuff to Read: The Books of the Decade

When we weren't at war and we had a budget surplus and it looked like Al Gore would be president? The prospect of a 21st century filled with new technologies, new art and literature loomed large and bright. But now, as we look back at what was decidedly a shitty decade for an incredible variety of people in an equally incredible variety of ways (evictions/invasions/bombings/etc), it's surprisingly hard to be pessimistic about the books that assessed, satirized, dramatized and distracted us from the events of the past 10 years. Goethe said that the decline of a nation's literature is the precursor to that nation's fall, and with this look back at the books that defined the decade, we'd like to tell Goethe to suck it.

Almost in spite of ourselves, we're still writing, translating, publishing and even occasionally buying good books in this country.
