This coming weekend will be a big moment for swissmiss! My wonderful developer and friend John Ford and I are hard at work 'packing boxes' to finally move the site to my own server and reveal the much needed design overhaul. Some of the new functionality inlcudes: a much needed search, better filtering options and even a choice in how you'll access the posts. http://swissmiss.typepad.com/weblog/

Rethink Canada designed this Mr. Lube gift and business card that demonstrates what the service is all about. Getting rid of that annoying "change oil" sign.

Every day, or every few days, I’ll drop by Google Reader to read from a number of excellent blogs. That’s where I find many of my link-drop tweets . http://www.davidairey.com/design-blogs/

No matter where you go in the known universe, there is design-by-committee. It has become a pecking order of disaster for the society that used to pride itself on being a mover and shaker and that allowed its mavericks and dreamers to innovate their way to success. In a business climate fueled by fear and the “ Peter Principle ,” as it is today, a decision not made is a tragedy averted. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/06/29/why-design-by-commitee-should-die/

What the FFF? Founded in 2005 by an ever growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive soon became an international showcase of creative work. Although the site was doing a great job at sparking creativity, we felt it could, and should, be even bigger and better.

http://sessions.tutsplus.com/creative/ Successful interfaces allow you to use them easily – they should feel seamless with the device you’re accessing with, and the experience you’re having. Successful interface designers have a theoretical foundation in numerous fields, which focus on planning and delivering great user experiences, as well as a strong graphic sensibility which they use to create interfaces that are attractive and fun to interact with. In this session we cover numerous subjects on interface design.

We Made This

We get a fair few CVs and portfolios emailed in to the studio each week, particularly at this time of year: some okay, some good, and some, occasionally, brilliant.
Just about every book I’ve read over the past few years I’ve read in electronic form, either on my iPhone or on my iPad.

So last year the Guardian did a survey of its iPhone (and presumably web) users asking what they’d think of an iPad app, and how much (if anything) they’d be willing to pay for it and/or a subscription.
