I have learned today through an article in The Independent that my publisher, Canongate, has secretly distributed an unauthorised 70,000 word first draft of what was going to be my autobiography. According to The Independent, Canongate “enacted a huge security operation to secretly ship books out to thousands of stores nationwide without tipping anyone off as to the content of the book”. It will be in the bookshops tomorrow. I am not “the writer” of this book. I own the copyright of the manuscript, which was written by Andrew O’Hagan. By publishing this draft against my wishes Canongate has acted in breach of contract, in breach of confidence, in breach of my creative rights and in breach of personal assurances.

The Life and Career of WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange
The annual prize is awarded to a journalist "whose work has penetrated the established version of events and told an unpalatable truth that exposes establishment propaganda, or 'official drivel', as Martha Gellhorn called it". "WikiLeaks has been portrayed as a phenomenon of the hi-tech age, which it is. But it's much more. Its goal of justice through transparency is in the oldest and finest tradition of journalism," Martha Gellhorn prize judges said in their citation. "WikiLeaks has given the public more scoops than most journalists can imagine: a truth-telling that has empowered people all over the world.

"WikiSecrets" Julian Assange Full Interview Footage
(on 2011-05-24) On 24 May, 2011, 9pm EST, PBS-Frontline will air a documentary "WikiSecrets". WikiLeaks has had intelligence for some time that the program is hostile and misrepresents WikiLeaks’ views and tries to build an "espionage" case against its founder, Julian Assange, and also the young soldier, Bradley Manning. In accordance with our tradition of "scientific journalism" (full primary sources) we release here our, behind the scenes, interview tape between Julian Assange & PBS Frontline’s Martin Smith which was recorded on 4/4/2011. In the tape, Assange scolds Martin Smith for his previous coverage of Bradley Manning and addresses a number of issues surrounding the 1917 Espionage Act investigation into WikiLeaks and Bradley Manning.WikiLeaks 'is more responsive than a government that is elected after sourcing money from big business every four years,' Assange told the audience. Photograph: Akira Suemori/AP WikiLeaks is more accountable than democratically elected governments because it accepts donations from members of the public, Julian Assange has claimed, in his first formal public appearance since being arrested in December following accusations of rape and sexual assault. Questioned at a public debate about the whistleblowing organisation's own transparency, Assange told an audience of 700 people, many of them supporters: "We are directly supported on a week-to-week basis by you. You vote with your wallets every week if you believe that our work is worthwhile or not. If you believe we have erred, you do not support us.

[Liveblog]: UK Court rules Julian Assange will be extradited » OWNI.eu, News, Augmented
There is no doubt that Julian Assange and WikiLeaks is the hot controversy. From releasing leaks pertaining to dictators in the Middle East to the Mafia in Italy, it is evident that WikiLeaks has opened a Pandora’s box that springs humanity into the age of transparency. But is Assange really the knight in shining armor which the powerless have been dreaming about? Not according to two women in Sweden, who are trying to extradite Assange from the UK for accusations of sexual misconduct. This personal scandal has changed the WikiLeaks narrative, forcing Assange to fight for his credibility and, ironically, his private life. [4:30pm] Words from the defeatedForbes has a big interview up with controversial Wikileaks impresario Julian Assange. This section in particular will be of interest to our readers: Would you call yourself a free market proponent?

Julian Assange The Cypherpunk Revolutionary | Robert Manne | The Monthly
Less than twenty years ago Julian Assange was sleeping rough. Even a year ago hardly anyone knew his name. Today he is one of the best-known and most-respected human beings on earth. Assange was the overwhelming winner of the popular vote for Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” and Le Monde ’s less politically correct “Man of the Year”. If Rupert Murdoch, who recently turned eighty, is the most influential Australian of the post-war era, Julian Assange, who will soon turn forty, is undoubtedly the most consequential Australian of the present time. Murdoch’s importance rests in his responsibility for injecting, through Fox News, the poison of rabid populist conservatism into the political culture of the United States; Assange’s in the revolutionary threat that his idea of publishing damaging documentary information sent by anonymous insiders to WikiLeaks poses to governments and corporations across the globe. While WikiLeaks relied on the greatest news outlets in the world, Julian Assange entrusted OWNI with the conception, the design and the development of the crowdsourcing application. Here is the story. Our questions. His answers. On Friday, October 8, an email appeared in our inbox, citing an “urgent request” for the team that developed the Afghanistan warlogs application. It was forwarded to me, as I was the datajournalist behind the project.
