(Know anyone like that?) I rarely sew for myself, which is a shame, because I have so many ideas in my head. But this time I decided to sew a needlebook lanyard, so that I’d have access to my pins and needles while working on my “while I’m waiting” hand-stitching projects. You know the kind – the little projects to bring to the doctor’s office, to sew in the stands while waiting to see your child make that next big goal, or in front of the TV.
I always wound up sticking the needle in my pants leg because I didn’t have anywhere to put it! I sewed this needlebook lanyard a few months ago and didn’t make a tutorial for it (shocking, I know). I hate winter and the cold, because it means I can't wear pretty, flirty skirts. Last summer, with an infant in tow, I didn't wear many skirts because I typically needed pockets. I own about 10 skirts and only one has pockets, and it's actually a skort that I only wore when I played golf, pre-baby.
All of my skirts are neutral colors; white, black, grey, and brown. One of my goals for this summer is to make and wear more skirts, and to make them in PRINTS! In order to inject some more fun into my summer wardrobe, I have a few neutral print fabrics stashed away that I'd like to make into skirts. See? Enter McCall's 6288. Now I know what you're thinking. There is, however, a short skirt with pockets, though the model isn't doing anyone any favors and does not have her hands IN the pockets.

Maybe it is that Rachel has been working on sewing up two different women’s patterns and I couldn’t resist making up this version for M. Racerbacks are a fun and easy summer staple. This one comes with options for a dress or tank. M loves dresses, so I went for the dress. This project only had one big hitch and it wasn’t the pattern. The aim to make a bag similar to this one. I decided to size it up to create an overnight bag for my daughter. As she doesn’t have such a bag I guessed the finished size, hoping it would be suitable for her PJ’s, toilet bag and change of clothes. First day of the sew-a-long, cut out, add interfacing and fusible fleece. Make the handles and sew onto the bag. The finished bag I created is 12″ by 16″ with a 4″ width. The handle length I debated about, in the end I decided on 14 1/2″ handles, and 25″ length for each side of the bag – totalling 79″ (just in case someone wishes to follow my measurements) Day Two -adding the internal pockets Next to create the internal pockets.
