Space Shuttle Art Project

America! By Robert Neubecker is one of my favorite resources for art lessons. I love his dynamic illustrations. This picture book inspired this Space Shuttle art lesson. I created this lesson for my Kinder class but see how art teacher Hannah Millard from Highland Elementary adapted this lesson for fourth grade. What you’ll need: 12″ x 18″ orange, blue, black or yellow construction paper12″ x 18″ white drawing paperPencil or crayonTempera Paint (black, light blue, dark blue, gray, orange, white and yellow)Glue and scissors The space shuttle is fun to draw.

Drawing the Shuttle To draw the Shuttle, start with the white paper and a pencil. Vary this drawing to however it suits you. Once the drawing is done, paint the insides of the shuttle with the different paint colors. Painting the Background Again, I used Neubecker’s illustrations as my guideline. Putting it all together Set aside the background and cut out the space shuttle. Kinder Space Shuttles blast off! Share.

At first glance this is very much a working display rather than something that’s been at all planned or designed. Look closer and you realise that the central image has been carefully chosen and executed. Giving children the ownership and freedom to contribute to the classroom displays in this way feels risky to many teachers but the results can be quite powerful. Robert says: Our January bulletin board was created by our class.

Me & My Goals Self Portrait

Drawing just the top face allows a focus on the eyes, and the beginning of a school year is a good time to declare goals. 1. You can download my template with paper lines already on it HERE. Seminar Session 2 School Self Evaluation - Literacy and Numeracy (Primary) Session 2 School Self-Evaluation is the second presentation given on the seminar day.

Seminar Session 2 School Self Evaluation - Literacy and Numeracy (Primary)

It looks at improving literacy and numeracy in schools using self-evaluation as the starting point. The 'Diamond Nine' activity on Self-evaluation used at the seminar can be downloaded below. This activity involves ranking nine statements concerning self-evaluation, in a diamond shape, from most to least important. The nine statements need to be cut into strips for this activity. It could be used with staff to explore the implications of self-evaluation for a school.

The school self-evaluation tools explored on the day are also available to download below. To help schools analyse their standardised test results, two excel files are provided below. Another useful tool to assist schools in analysising their results is the Cd which accompanies the Sigma-T test. The Ballard/Westwood Timed Arithmetic Test, referred to during the session on Target Setting, is included as an attachment below.
