http://listverse.com/2011/07/17/top-10-intellectual-rappers/ Despite being in the mainstream consciousness for over twenty years now, Hip-Hop is still largely thought to consist solely of idiotic, crude and often pointlessly violent lyrics that debase and malign the English language. Although to be fair, that is still the majority of the Hip-Hop music being shoved down our throats by the big music labels and radio. However, there is an increasingly large presence of extremely intelligent Hip-Hop pushing the genre’s boundaries and transforming rap into academically and artistically viable poetry.

Photographer Martin Klimas Paints Like Pollock With Sound How do you paint with sound? It’s a good question and the answer comes from German photographer Martin Klimas . He starts by putting different colored paint on top of a speaker over some translucent material, then cranks up the volume. The vibrations of the speaker shoot the paint into the air creating beautiful patterns and sculptural forms, and Klimas snaps them with his camera while in flight. http://thecreatorsproject.com/blog/photographer-martin-klimas-paints-like-pollock-with-sound

http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2012/01/riusuke-fukahori-paints-three-dimensional-goldfish-embedded-in-layers-of-resin/ First: watch the video. Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori paints three-dimensional goldfish using a complex process of poured resin. The fish are painted meticulously, layer by layer, the sandwiched slices revealing slightly more about each creature, similar to the function of a 3D printer. I really enjoy the rich depth of the pieces and the optical illusion aspect, it’s such an odd process that results in something that’s both a painting and sculptural.

drawing

http://mrspicassosartroom.blogspot.com/search/label/drawing As funny as it may seem, Halloween is just around the corner, so I have decided to revisit a favorite lesson, with a slight alteration. As previously posted , this project involves drawing a haunted house that would be impossible to built. However, the last time I posted about this project, we had used a watercolor wash to complete the backgrounds. This time my fourth graders used a tissue paper bleed technique. Materials : tissue paper, white tag 12" X 18", pencil, handouts showing architecture and Halloween items, black permanent marker (both thick and thin)
