The mousse sounds inviting, but I'm not sure I want to commit a good portion of flatware to the project (32 spoons!). The idea of a disposable plastic spoon came to mind, but for a single bite - well, that would be environmentally unsound and just too wasteful. Then, it came to me suddenly. Edible spoons! Do they exist? Can I make them? I've wanted to try stencil paste (or tuile batter) for some time, and now I had the perfect opportunity! The tuile batter recipe comes from my new favorite cookbook, Le Cordon Bleu Complete Cooking Techniques.

Question: What's better than a caramel apple coated in chocolate, white chocolate, and butterscotch drizzles, then sprinkled with peanuts and crushed candy bars?
Answer: A caramel apple that has had it's core removed, then had the hole filled with a sweet peanut butter filling, then is coated in chocolate, white chocolate, and butterscotch drizzles, then sprinkled with peanuts and crushed candy bars. In the winter, I suddenly find all of my favorite fruit desserts—smoothies, sorbets, frozen yogurts—completely unappealing; just the thought makes my teeth hurt and makes me want to curl up in a blanket. So besides just eating fruit as nature intended, well-rinsed and with a napkin to catch all the juices, I rely on a few simple recipes to transform plain fruit into warm, healthy desserts. Of these, nothing is simpler or easier than apples baked in the microwave.
I’ve been baking apples in the microwave ever since I saw the recipe in Adventures in Microwave Cooking, the book that came with my first Montgomery Ward microwave.
