The Antlers – Intruders Lyrics. Tipping Points in Social Networks. Tipping Points in Social Networksby Brad Hunter It is midnight on a Wednesday night.
I sit, staring complacently at my computer screen, as a pudgy three-dimensional animation of a baby points its finger in the air and wiggles its bottom in a circle. I find myself questioning what mighty coercive power has brought me to this point and I demand to know how it came to possess such power over me. Malcolm Gladwell's book, The Tipping Point, provides me some solace. This is not my fault. In the current Age of Information, each of us is embedded in myriad different networks that connect us to the world around us. The immensity, complexity, and variety of our networks certainly provide interesting areas for creative thought and speculation. Social Epidemics Gladwell writes about epidemics, but not the viral sort we might expect. Tipping Points As the name of the book implies, tipping points are Gladwell's focus.
The Three Laws The Law of the Few Connectors are the socialites. The Stickiness Factor.
Why I Said Goodbye To An Old Friend And Never Looked Back. Life doesn’t always give us an explanation.
Sometimes, things happen to us that truly don’t make any sense at the time. Years later, we are still searching for answers to those lingering questions. I’ve been through a lot in the short 23 years of my life. I’ve been through a lot of good times, a lot of bad times and a mix of everything in-between. However, if there’s one thing I truly care about and cherish, it’s the relationships I hold with the people close to me.
I am in no way, shape, or form, perfect by any means. I’ve hurt people I never meant to hurt, and for a period of time, I’ve even questioned my own character. And that’s exactly what I’ve learned with you. We all change. If we never changed, we could never move on to the next chapter of our lives. I like to think I give people a lot of chances.
Paleoanthropology. Techno-futurism Vs Fear of Change, page 1. There’s been a lot of heat and emotion out there on social media as people increasingly want to draw lines in the sand.
Whether it’s body-modifications, transgender ops or the rise in tattoos; some people want more and others want none of it. These are the cultural battlegrounds between traditional values and the explorers of future society. They also reflect the eternal battle between generations. Like any value system, the noisiest proponents of tradition want things to stay the same. Their extreme counterparts want to tear it all down and start fresh. Those are the physical hacks we use to improve our bodies and increase the quality of our lives. Further off the path, we have recreational drugs that have been fuelling cultures for as long as humans have been a species: coca leaves, marijuana, betel nuts and psychedelics.
Augmented Society? Another obvious risk is a sleeping, content society might be prone to exploitation from the folks in charge. What's to come? A possible future?
