Canvas Project. To all of your coming over from Pinterest:Thanks so much for stopping by! Who knew such a simple project could become so popular? If you have any questions please ask! You can also check the comments because many people have shared tips and tricks they discovered as they've tried this project. Also, there's a misconception going around Pinterest that you can use glue for this project. Several people have told me that glue does not work. Just thought I'd let you know ahead of time! Good luck and have fun! A few weeks ago on Pinterest I found this lovely ditty. One thing you need to know about me is that I'm a font snob. I apparently got two different kinds of puffy paint.

I knew I wouldn't be able to get a lot of detail using puffy paint, so I chose a font that was simple but not average. I didn't want to paint right onto my canvas because puffy paint is famous for getting random air bubbles. The next step was to peel the letters off of the wax paper and place them on my canvas. Owls, Foil, Glue, and Shoe Polish. (original artwork by David, grade 5) Art Club, Grades 1-6 This is one of my all-time favorite projects. The technique has been around for years, and I've loved using it several times with my students. This time around, our art is of owls and leaves. We first planned our compositions, paying attention to all of the positive and negative spaces. We wanted to be sure they were all interesting. 1. **I've noticed on Pinterest some people think we used coloring book images. 2. 6. 7.

Once you've filled all of the spaces, rub over the whole thing with black shoe polish, wait a few seconds, and wipe off. A couple of you have commented on the color- the results will be an aged silver metal look, something along the color lines of pewter. Yes. When I was hanging these up, parents, teachers, and kids all stopped to ask about them- I love being able to tell my Art Club artists how much people enjoy their art work! Make it a wonderful day! Make an awesome Harry Potter wand from a sheet of paper and glue gun glue. Now that Harry Potter fever is upon us once more, I thought you would like to have a go at making some really nice Harry Potter Wands. This is such a simple but effective instructable. With a sheet of paper, some glue and a bit of paint, and about 40 minutes to spare this instructable will show you how you can make a Harry Potter type wand that would not look out of place in the film itself. I designed it and I have already made a load for my kids, even my girlfriend and her 18 year old daughter and her boyfriend wanted one each!

For the frist few stages I have drawn pictures of what you have to do and then for the painting part I have taken photos to show you exactly what to do. It's very simple but the effect is fantastic. Miniature Clay Artworks on the Outside of Altoids Tins. Sep 8, 2013 Redditor Qoth recently uploaded an album of clay polymer artworks affixed to the outsides of Altoid tins. The post quickly went viral, with the accompanying Imgur album already viewed 177,000 times in the first 10-hours. The artist is Qoth’s mother, and most of the artworks below were made as gifts for family members. According to comments, each piece can take days to complete. And the polymer clay actually affixes to the tins after being placed in a toaster oven.

With the unexpected surge in popularity, fans of the artworks can hope to see an Etsy storefront in the near future. I’ll be sure to update the post with the artist name, bio and link to the online store once it’s made available. Until then, enjoy these miniature masterpieces! [via Qoth on Reddit] Ruffled Cake Banner. Sweet Kate asked if I would participate in her ruffle event and of course I said yes. I loved the challenge! It was fun brainstorming project ideas and putting together this tutorial. If you're visiting today from Kate's blog, welcome! If you're a regular, make sure you hop on over to See Kate Sew. She's got some fun projects I'm sure you'll enjoy. I decided a ruffle cake banner would be a fun little project to share for two reasons. 1. Parties are fun 2. To begin, sew a simple basting stitch down the center of your fabric strip.

Then, tie the thread at one end of the fabric strip into a knot. Flip the fabric strip over (to the end that hasn't been knotted), hold one of the two threads in your hand and gently pull, gathering the fabric. Use the threads to tie your ruffled fabric banner to two wooden skewers. Bake a pretty cake, then stick in the wooden skewers. You have to know, as soon as I finished snapping photos the children and I dug into this confection and enjoyed every bite. Fortune cookie favors. I needed a favor for my friend Emily's baby shower recently, and decided to make some personalized fortune cookies. I'm not a fan of the crunchy stale fortune cookies you usually get after a meal in a chinese restaurant, but these homemade fortune cookies not only look cute, they actually taste pretty delicious!

I came up with as many fortunes as I could for this new baby girl, things like "Baby Wight will never cry" or "Baby Wight will grow up to be a famous trapeze artist" or my favorite, "Baby Wight will be a boy! Surprise! ". The fortunes were printed and cut into strips, mine are about 1/2" high and 7" or so wide. The recipe I used is a traditional tuile batter, which you drop by spoonful onto a Silpat. Once the cookies come out of the oven, you need to work quickly to add the paper fortunes and form the cookies. It takes a few batches to get all this figured out. Welcome little one. Art with melted crayons - happy hooligans. Melting Crayon Art: - help your kids create gorgeous art with melted crayon shavings! I’m really excited to share this post with you! Like so many of the things we make here, I had no idea how this would turn out until the very end of the process. I’d been thinking about making some melted crayon art for a few days, but I wasn’t exactly sure what we’d make, or even how we we’d do it.

You’ve likely seen lots of melted crayon art on pinterest. Dilly Dali Art made some great initial artwork for her kids’ rooms, and Juggling with Kids made the traditional crayon rainbow using a hairdryer. Looking through a cupboard yesterday, I came across our family’s “Starry Night” jigsaw puzzle, and my plan came together. This project provided me with a opportunity to introduce a little culture into our day. Each hooligan was given a piece of cardboard (cereal box) covered with aluminum foil, and I filled a paint pallet with 4 shades of blue paint, and a shot each of yellow, black, purple and white. Bookmarks | 26 comments I don’t really use real bookmarks. I’m not sure why. They’re not expensive, or hard to make, but I tend to just pick up whatever to mark my pages. Old receipts, scraps of paper, a pencil, etc. But I don’t ever dog ear my pages. Last week Logan laughed at me because he found a napkin folded in half inside the copy of A Million Suns that I had just started reading. A napkin? (For those curious, I finished A Million Suns a couple days later and really enjoyed it!

I’ve been eye-ing lots of super cute DIY bookmarks for the last few months that I’ve seen pop up around the web. The problem is, often my bookmarks fall out and I lose my page. I’m definitely going to keep these in mind for future gift giving opportunities after I’ve made a couple for our use at home. 8 Cute DIY Bookmark Ideas Bow Tie Paper Clips Using Fabric Scraps from How About Orange. One of my very best friends is pregnant - someone with whom I went to preschool, Mother's Morning Out and Girl Scouts, and who I picked up every day for high school. She and her husband live in Kentucky now, and they're decorating an adorable baby-girl nursery. Two years ago, I made a bunch of little birds to decorate our wedding reception, and I based the pattern on these beautiful birds that Jessica had made for me. I thought they would make a perfect mobile for a nursery some day, even before Spool's showed up online (theirs is adorable, too).

Since my friend will be hanging a sampler in her nursery, and since I've always wanted to use them for something, I used wooden embroidery hoops to perch my birdies on. Materials: 1/4 yard each of four contrasting fabrics needle and thread polyester stuffing 10" and 12" wood embroidery hoops monofilament or fishing line about a dozen crimp tubes (available at beading stores) Here is the simple pattern that I made to make these birds. Done! Liberty of London Swatch Portraits. In our teeny-tiny fabric shop, Purl Patchwork, it is a challenge to find fresh ideas to display our favorite products in customer-friendly ways.

We were really scratching our heads when a bunch of new Tana Lawn prints from Liberty of London arrived last week on unruly five-foot-tall bolts! Our solution: we filled a handful of simple wooden embroidery hoops with swatches of fabric and displayed them all on the wall like a family portrait gallery. These swatch portraits are so easy to make and they make great gifts too! Enjoy! The Materials To make one portrait: A square of fabric, at least 2" wider than your hoop in all directions. The Pattern Place fabric in the hoop, pull taught. Turn to wrong side, run a small line of glue around the inside hoop, just next to the fabric.Press fabric into glue, all the way around. Allow Glue to dry. Trim fabric to edge of hoop. DIY Wood-Grain Laptop Wrap. Make Your Own Canvas Portrait! Candles in Seashells - Martha Stewart Home & Garden.
