This review is from: Game Design Workshop, Second Edition: A Playcentric Approach to Creating Innovative Games (Gama Network Series) (Paperback) The top rating is well-deserved -- this book is both thorough and well-written.Game Design Complete (9781933097008): Patrick O'Luanaigh: Books
I was very disappointed by this book. It comes across as a low-fi look at the broad subject area of game design, more or less bereft of any information that is beyond common sense. The author (whom the back of book blurb refers to as a "Master Game Designer") comes across as condescending, and generally displays a poor grasp of the subject, despite the fact that he is the design director for a video game publishing company.Game Design: Principles, Practice, and Techniques - The Ultimate Guide for the Aspiring Game Designer (9780471968948): Jim Thompson, Barnaby Berbank-Green, Nic Cusworth: Books
Introduction to Game Development, Second Edition (9781584506799): Steve Rabin: Books
First of all, for those that think that this book is about game programming: it is not (just to let some of you guys warned).Game Design: A Practical Approach (Charles River Media Game Development) (9781584504719): Paul Schuytema: Books
Computer games have changed dramatically over the past few years. Long gone are simple Pac-Man type games. Today's computer are vastly more powerful than the early PC's and competition has forced the gaming industry into every more sophisticated games. The Art of Game Design: A book of lenses (9780123694966): Jesse Schell: Books
As written in the early eighties, this book is one of the pioneer works seriously about video game.
The Art Of Computer Game Design: Reflections Of A Master Game Designer (9780881341171): Chris Crawford: Books
This is without doubt one of the best books on game design ever written. The author does a tremendous job on educating the reader about the intricacies of commercial game development.
