Trésors de la Médiathèque. Les collections de la Médiathèque ont pour noyau central les confiscations opérées à l’époque révolutionnaire.
La saisie des bibliothèques ecclésiastiques du département et de celles des émigrés est à l’origine du riche patrimoine écrit et graphique qu’elle n’a cessé – depuis sa fondation officielle en 1803 – d’enrichir par des dons, des legs, des envois de l’Etat et des acquisitions régulières. On y distingue le fonds ancien, rare et précieux, le fonds régional, les fonds particuliers, les archives et les collections iconographiques. La Médiathèque ne compte pas moins de 1118 manuscrits, parmi lesquels 145 manuscrits médiévaux et du début du XVIe siècle et 289 incunables, dont sept éditions poitevines. Des XVIe-XVIIIe siècles, la Médiathèque conserve un fonds théologique particulièrement riche, des trésors littéraires et un remarquable ensemble de récits de voyages.
