Lead – Toxicology Litigation Support – Consultox. Lead is ubiquitous in our environment. It used to be contained in gasoline but has now been replaced. It has been used in pipes, ceramic glazes, paints, and solder, among other sources. Exposure can be oral through ingestion of food or water or by inhalation from lead-containing dust or dirt. Once in the body it goes to soft tissues including the brain and kidneys but eventually is deposited in bone.
It is then released from bone slowly over a period of time causing elevated lead concentrations in the blood and accumulation in the brain, resulting in behavioral and intellectual deficits in both children and adults. Children are the most susceptible. A case involving an alleged exposure to lead paint when there was no obvious lead paint available, resulted in the discovery that the child was given orange juice daily from a lead laden pitcher from Morocco. DRAFT - Opinionator. John Wells and I have been together a very long time. If you haven’t heard of Wells, he’s a C.I.A. operative who plays the starring role in a series of espionage thrillers that I started writing a decade ago. Random House published the first, “The Faithful Spy,” in 2006. I planned to kill Wells off at its end, a la John le Carre’s Alec Leamas. But my editor told me I couldn’t end with a fade to black, that I’d have to have a funeral. I found I couldn’t write the scene. Since then, Wells has proven too tough to die, or maybe too mean. I’ve lost track of how many men he’s killed, but it’s well past two dozen. Wells predates my wife, Jackie, and our daughter, Lucy. So, after pulling an all nighter to finish all the cuts, staining, "cheats", etc I prepare for my friend to arrive and help me carry the lumber to the build site. We'll need to insure the structure is level and square, and I was hoping everything would go together easily. Help arrives, and we tote all the lumber to the site. Some of the boards are 14 feet long, so I'm glad for the help! Our first build site didn't work out so well. Next I need to level the posts that are there, add the three remaining posts and tie up a few loose ends before I fill with soil.
