Okie law set to come into force. 25 May 2012Last updated at 20:22 ET The cookie laws were drawn up to help privacy on the web Thousands of UK websites are now in breach of a law that dictates what they can log about visitors. European laws that define what details sites can record in text files called cookies came into force on 26 May. Cookies are widely used to customise what repeat visitors see on a site and by advertisers to track users online. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) said it would offer help to non-compliant sites rather than take legal action against them. Action plan The regulations say websites must get "informed consent" from users before they record any detailed information in the cookies they store on visitors' computers. Among websites that have complied with the law, getting consent has involved a pop-up box that explains the changes.

UK firms have had 12 months to prepare for the change and the ICO has spent much of that time reminding businesses about their obligations. A Flickr photo embedding utility This utility will allow you to embed a photo from Flickr on your own site while retaining any annotated regions present on the original.

See the example below. If the photo you want to include on your site doesn't have any annotations ("notes", as Flickr calls them), then don't bother using this utility, as it's pointless. Only public photos can be used with this utility at the moment. In the field below, enter the Flickr photo number of the photo you want to embed.

For photo size, select the dimension of the largest side you want. Alternately, drag the link at the left to your favorites or toolbar, and when you're at a flickr page with a photo you want to embed, click on it. Here's an example: Here's how the same photo looks when using the embedding HTML Flickr provides: 2008.02.22 —Josh Larios. Accessibility Updates for Docs, Sites and Calendar.

Posted by Naomi Black, Technical Program Manager, Accessibility Earlier this year, members of the blind community shared a powerful message with us about the importance of accessibility. On the Official Google Blog today, we announced some accessibility enhancements to our products, including new keyboard shortcuts and improved screen reader support in Google Docs, Google Sites and Google Calendar. For blind students and employees who rely on assistive technologies to access the web, we hope these improvements will make it easier to use our products. To answer your questions and discuss how today’s product updates affect blind users in businesses, governments and schools using Google Apps, we’d like to invite our enterprise customers to join us for a webinar on September 21.
