The NOVA shoe, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for shoe brand United Nude, claims to be the first ever shoe to use rotation moulding in its manufacture. The shoe also employs injection moulding and vacuum casting. The footwear features a striated surface resembling geological formations similar to those used in Hadid's architectural projects such as the Galaxy Soho development in Beijing. The metallic chromed vinyl rubber upper is lined with leather while the platform and heel are fiberglass and the outsole is rubber. The shoes were launched yesterday at the L'Eclaireur store in Paris, the same day that United Nude presented a 3D printed shoe designed by fashion designer Iris van Herpen during Paris Fashion Week.

The 45,000-seat stadium will be nestled within a rich cultural fabric of traditional Islamic architecture, historical buildings, distinctive mosques and archeological sites that belongs to one of the oldest inhabited areas of Qatar, just south of Doha. As noted by the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, embracing the identify of this cultural heritage will be a crucial part to the success of the stadium. The design will respond to the consistently hot temperatures of the region by integrating cooling-technology systems with climate-control requirements for renewable energy production. In addition to the stadium, programs will include an aquatics center and other sporting facilities, along with a spa and commercial space. Untitled.

The Mystery of Lauryn Hill. A Quick Guide to Creating a Memorable and Successful Logo Design. There are lots of ways in which logos are designed: logos can be crowdsourced, companies may pay millions for a logo, or an average designer can be asked to create a logo at reasonable rates.

Skyscraper for bees by University at Buffalo students

A team of architecture students from the University at Buffalo has recently constructed a skyscraper for a colony of bees (+ slideshow). Erected amongst a desolate group of disused grain silos beside the Buffalo River, the seven-metre tower provides a new hive for honey bees that had formally formerly taken up residence in the boarded-up window of an old office block. The tower is clad with a honeycomb of hexagonal steel panels. Triangular perforations speckle the surfaces, allowing light to filter gently inside. Ad of the Day: IBM Makes the World's Smallest Movie ... With Atoms. IBM and Ogilvy make a big impact with the smallest of building blocks in their latest video, billed as "the world's smallest movie"—a rudimentary stop-motion animation made by IBM scientists using a special microscope they invented to move atoms around on a surface.

The movie, titled "A Boy and His Atom," consists of nearly 250 frames of stop-motion action and tells the simple story of a boy named Atom who dances and plays with an atom. By drawing viewers in with the film (a technological marvel that will no doubt be passed around far and wide), IBM then uses an engrossing behind-the-scenes clip to tell its larger story—about how the company has worked at the nanoscale for decades to explore the limits of data storage, among other things with real-world applications. Andreas Heinrich, a principle investigator at IBM Research, is the most eloquent voice of the project. While IBM works on that, it hopes this movie accomplishes a simpler goal: getting kids to love science.

"We tend to work in the year 2050," says Carole Collet, who founded the Textile Futures course at Central Saint Martins 10 years ago. "But for some students, that's not enough – they prefer to speculate up to 2080 and beyond. " Sitting in the cafe at the college's new King's Cross campus, it seems that all Collet and her colleague, course leader Caroline Till, are missing is a crystal ball. The work they and their students have been quietly pursuing for the last decade focuses on futuristic scenarios that many would find hard to comprehend – let alone relate to the conventional understanding of the word "textiles".
