Antony Gormley. Museum De Paviljoens - Antony Gormley, Exposure (2010) Gefascineerd door de maakbaarheid van de nieuwe polder liet Gormley zich voor dit gigantische kunstwerk inspireren door het maagdelijke landschap. Iets te kunnen scheppen zonder verwijzingen naar de historie van de locatie maakt Flevoland voor hem een bijzondere plek. (1) Rijdend door de polder ontdekte Gormley een landschap met een ritmiek van rechte lijnen van kanalen, akkers en windmolens. De hoogspanningsmasten die als zenuwstelsel in Flevoland liggen, vormden de inspiratiebron voor Exposure. (2) Vanuit deze stalen skeletten creëerde hij een open structuur voor zijn sculptuur van de hurkende man.
Bij zonnig weer reflecteert de blauwe lucht in de stalen staven en bij zonsopkomst en -ondergang wordt het beeld een donker silhouet tegen de oplichtende horizon. Binnen de Flevolands Land Art traditie is het de eerste keer dat een figuratief beeld het landschap van de polder becommentarieert zonder gebruik te maken van elementen uit de natuur. Concept The Truth Told Project was born in December of 2010 when award-winning photographer Sarah Fretwell ventured into the war-torn mineral rich region of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Her time there was spent in rural villages and bush country ravaged by the ongoing battle for access to minerals and land. For fifty days, she gathered the untold stories of the people bearing the brunt of the conflict. The Project amplifies the voices of women, girls, and men of the DRC who have been silenced by the war, their government, and corruption. The goal of the project is to illuminate the daily realities of life in the DR Congo, discuss the key players in the conflict, and the rampant sexual violence.
