Why Bother Making Science-Fiction Art? - Bradblogspeed.com. Collection: A Separate Realityby Alex Andreyev Often when I start a new project, whether it be a painting or piece of animation, I ask myself the question; should I avoid doing something science-fictiony this time? Usually the answer is no, but I can imagine that you might wonder why I’d consider avoiding the genre in the first place. Well, first and foremost there’s the whole “being called a nerd” thing that none of us like. And then there’s this idea out there that fantasy-based art isn’t to be taken seriously. It seems that to many, otherworldly art belongs on the covers of nerdy pulp novels and role playing books, and nowhere near a gallery. So why do sci-fi art then? Absolutely my fave in the collection. Well, I can’t answer that question for Alex Andreyev, who’s fine work you see below, but based on my own feelings I bet I can take a guess.

In my opinion, that’s why sci-fi art is so prevalent, even if it’s never widely appreciated. Well, I suppose at least that’s why I do it. Amazingly Creative Drawing Vs Photography. Ethereal Macro Photos of Snowflakes in the Moments Before They Disappear. Russian photographer Andrew Osokin is a master of winter macro photography. His photo collection is chock full of gorgeous super-close-up photographs of insects, flowers, snow, and frost. Among his most impressive shots are photographs of individual snowflakes that have fallen upon the ground and are in the process of melting away. The shots are so detailed and so perfectly framed that you might suspect them of being computer-generated fabrications.

They’re not though. The images were all captured using a Nikon D80 or Nikon D90 DSLR and a 60mm or 90mm macro lens. You can enjoy many more of Osokin’s impressive photographs (16 pages worth, at the moment) over on his LensArt.ru website. We’ve all had our eyes fooled by artists with photorealistic techniques such as Pedro Campos’ picture perfect oil paintings, Paul Cadden’s hyperrealistic pencil drawings, Samuel Silva’s ballpoint pen drawing, and Nathan Welsh’s city paintings, but never before had we seen it done with chalk…until now! Rubén Belloso Adorna of Seville, Spain creates enormous portraits that are so detailed, you would not believe they are not photographs, but they are actually drawings made with chalk pastels.

You can see the true magnitude of each drawing when you see the photos of Adorna working on them, yet even when you zoom in and look closely they still look like a high definition photo. Generative art as defined by Philip Galanter is, “Any art practice where the artist creates a process, such as a set of natural language rules, a computer program, a machine, or other mechanism, which is then set to motion with some degree of autonomy contributing to or resulting in a complete work of art.” I became a huge fan of generative art after I went to a presentation by Joshua Davis at Adobe Max. His presentation was on his new experimental work, titled “space”. It was a real treat to see how Joshua pushes himself and his work to the next level.

He is by far a master in this area. After the workshop, I was really inspired to find as many resources as I could on creating generative art. I personally like the idea of generating art inside of Flash with some ActionScript. At first you may think you are looking at four separate photographs placed directly next to each other in a square formation. But, look closely and you'll realize that what you see is completely real—no Photoshop used at all! New York-based photographer Béla Borsodi created this single image for band VLP's recent album, Terrain. Through trial and error, the patient artist carefully arranged objects of complementary colors—oranges and blues—until the optical illusion was achieved through his viewfinder. Not only did Borsodi have to master his object placement, but he also had to achieve the proper camera angle to produce the mirage of flat space.

Eventually, the mishmash of household objects were perfectly aligned, resulting in distinct horizontal and vertical lines across the middle. When speaking about what makes a good photograph, Borsodi says, "If it touches you, if it excites you, if it makes you cry, if it makes you smile.
