David Bowie's Impact on Rock'n'Roll: A Tribute.

The greatest gift that David Bowie bequeathed to popular music wasn't a sound or style -- though he had plenty of those -- but an idea: that art, like life, is a series of performances, and each version of the self is as real or unreal as any other.

Because I promised to further discuss the esoteric side of Osama bin Laden's death, I present this excerpt from The Tarot: Talisman or Taboo? By Mark Patrick Hederman:To distance ourselves from this dark possibility within--the fact that we are all potential criminals--we have created a monster to act a main part in the pantomime we prefer to the dream drama of our lives: Satan as supernatural sadist or infernal demon. In this guise, the evil that is the shadow side of everything that is bright and good remains hidden to ourselves. Osama bin Laden has become another byword for the devil in our Western world. . . . A circle of practitioners waits for the skull “at the center of it all,” ready for some unspoken ritual. It’s staggering how differently a piece of art can be interpreted both before and after someone’s death.

David Bowie’s ‘Lazarus’ Video Isn’t Just A Goodbye, It’s A Harrowing Warning — The Happy Startup School

In the case of the late David Bowie’s music video for “Lazarus,” what may have been viewed as an innocuous 4 minutes of trippy entertainment turns into a disturbing, emotionally raw, premeditated goodbye letter. I appreciate the impact “Lazarus” — and by extension the entirety of Bowie’s final album Blackstar — has and will have on his fans. We now understand that it was always meant as a final gift from Bowie to his fans. But for me, that video is a warning. There’s a scene about 3 minutes into the “Lazarus” video that’s difficult to watch. A few seconds later, it’s as if Bowie is overwhelmed. Donny Osmond - "Fame" (David Bowie Cover)

Once at a dinner he gazed down into a pair of stereo microphones trained to pick up his every munch and said, "I don't like talk and I don't like talkers. Like Ma Barker. You remember Ma Barker? Well, that's what she always said, 'Ma Barker doesn't like talk and she doesn't like talkers.' She just sat there with her gun. " DAVID BOWIE LYRICS - Memory Of A Free Festival.

"Memory Of A Free Festival" The Children of the summer's end Gathered in the dampened grass We played Our songs and felt the London sky Resting on our hands It was God's land It was ragged and naive It was Heaven Touch, We touched the very soul Of holding each and every life We claimed the very source of joy ran through It didn't, but it seemed that way I kissed a lot of people that day Oh, to capture just one drop of all the ecstasy that swept that afternoon To paint that love upon a white balloon And fly it from the topest top of all the tops That man has pushed beyond his brain Satori must be something just the same We scanned the skies with rainbow eyes and saw machines of every shape and size We talked with tall Venusians passing through And Peter tried to climb aboard but the Captain shook his head And away they soared Climbing through the ivory vibrant cloud Someone passed some bliss among the crowd And We walked back to the road, unchained.

'Blackstar' was released on Bowie's 69th birthday last Friday (January 8), shortly before he passed away on Sunday (January 10) following what his official statement describes as "a courageous 18 month battle with cancer".

Journalist Michael Azerrad was the first to notice that a 'black star' is a medical term for a type of cancer lesion, reporting the news in a now-deleted tweet. A 'black star' is a "proliferative breast lesion... described as long and thin with radiating radiolucent linear structures, which against a radiolucent fat background gives a black star or dark star appearance".

Press Bowie's illness had been kept secret from the public, although reports have since suggested that he "died from liver cancer" after "surviving six heart attacks". The Occult Universe of David Bowie and the Meaning of "Blackstar" - The Vigilant Citizen - Understand the Occult Symbolism in Pop Culture. In the wake of David Bowie’s death, his last album, “Blackstar”, is his swan song, an enigmatic conclusion to a career punctuated by otherworldly alter-egos and esoteric symbolism. We’ll look at the meaning of “Blackstar” in the context of David Bowie’s career. Very few artists can boast the longevity of David Bowie in the music industry, as his career spanned over five decades and produced 28 albums. Throughout the decades, Bowie migrated from one musical genre to another, and even from one persona to another, but a constant remained: He was surrounded by an otherworldly aura.

Through his work, Bowie turned himself into a musical ‘ascended master’, a Gnostic Christ-like figure who achieved a high level of illumination and who sought to communicate a cryptic message to humanity. While many of Bowie’s eccentricities could be attributed to drugs and rock and roll, one cannot paint a complete picture of this artist without mentioning his most enduring obsession: Western occultism. A year of endings, in a way. Sid Vicious died, Ozzy Osbourne left Black Sabbath… an old guard faded away. On the other hand, U2 went into the studio for their debut, Kate Bush went on her first tour, and new wave emerged from punk’s end. It was also the year, notably or not, that Berlin/New York cabaret performer Klaus Nomi broke, sort of. Nomi had been performing Wagner and Vaudeville in New York, and David Bowie, always on the make for unusual traveling companions, invited him to appear as a backup singer on Saturday Night Live.
