A webgrabber downloads complete sites, including pictures and sounds (if you want) onto your harddisk. Just start it and when you come back from a short walk or whatever (You can also use your PC/Internet connection while the garbber works), chances are it already has downloaded what you wanted. You now can surf the site "offline", that's why those programmes are called "offline browser"s sometimes. It is also very handy for doing backups and routine downloads. It is a lot easier to have a webgrabber download a site than doing it manually through a standard browser.

Whom is wGetGUI for? Webgrabbers are a good idea for people who want to download complete sites, pages with inline objects, routine downloads. wget has long been a favourite among geeks. Installation Help For the Haters. 99 Ways to Make Your Computer Blazingly Fast. Over the last several years working in IT for various companies as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, and Help Desk professional, I’ve written and learned about many ways to increase the performance of not only my PC, but also of the many PCs on my networks ranging from Windows 98 to Windows Vista.

In this article, I hope to compile a complete list of all the different methods and tricks that I’ve used to get the last bit of juice out of a slow PC. Whether you are using an old PC or the latest and greatest in hardware, you can still use some of these to make your PC run faster. Note that since I write two blogs, Help Desk Geek and Online Tech Tips, I have previously written about many performance tips already which I will link back to throughout. If I have not written about it, I’ve throw in a link to a relevant article from some of my other favorite sites. This list is in no particular order, just written in the order that I could think of them. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. BCM for Outlook 2010 now available as a “free” add-in. When Office 2010 launched, Microsoft made the questionable decision to only include Business Contact Manager (BCM) with the Volume License suites of Office 2010 (Standard and Professional Plus). This decision left out all the people who are using BCM in a standalone environment or in an environment which needs less than 5 Office 2010 licenses.

Microsoft has reconsidered this decision and has now made BCM 2010 available as a free add-in. There is a catch though; you must already have a license of a qualifying previous version (2003 or 2007) to be entitled to get BCM for Outlook 2010. This means that if you want to get started with BCM 2010 but do not own a previous license for it, you’ll still need to obtain a Volume License version of the Office 2010 suite to be able to use it legally.

However, the BCM download site accepts any key of an Office 2010 suite that includes Outlook and no check is made for a previous version. Download: Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2010. Heffelfinger's Ensode.net - Free Excel Spreadsheet Unlock Online Utility (Beta) Microsoft Excel allows a user to protect one or more sheets in a spreadsheet. Protected sheets cannot be modified without entering a password (chosen by the person that protected the spreadsheet). Sometimes these passwords are lost, therefore protected spreadsheets are permanently locked.

This page contains a free online utility that allows you to upload an Excel spreadsheet and unlock any protected sheets in the spreadsheet. To unlock an Excel spreadsheet, enter it's location in the "XLS file to unlock" field, by either typing it in the field or clicking on the "browse" button, then navigating to it's location. The unlocked version of the spreadsheet will be displayed in a new browser window, and automatically opened in Excel if it is installed in your system.

Otherwise the unlocked spreadsheet can be downloaded to your local hard drive. The terms and conditions must be accepted to unlock the Excel spreadsheet. Would you like to discuss this utility? Defragger. A defragger is a utility that ensures files on disk are in one contiguous chunk. A defragger may also position files on disk so that frequently used files get prime real estate. The outermost tracks (beginning of the disk) have faster transfer rate because they are longer, and hence pack more data per revolution. They are also faster because they are near the prime OS (Operating System) system areas where the heads tend to hover over.

Ideally it would order files by last access date, perhaps weighted by frequency of use statistics. Windows has an official NTFS (New Technology File System) defrag interface. Defraggers don’t move exclusively locked files. You can help your defraggers along by putting your system proper on a partition to itself C:, your scratch space on D:, volatile data on E:, your programs on F: and your attic of rarely accessed collected programs and files and backups on G:. At the lowest level, all defraggers are identical. Defragger Products Difficult To Defrag Files. FileBox eXtender - keep favorite folders at your fingertips. Remove Old Drivers After Upgrading to New Hardware. If you are experiencing weird issues after upgrading your hardware, or you’ve just upgraded to the latest hardware device and aren’t seeing the performance you’d like, you might want to remove the old drivers which are still installed for the old hardware, even though you can’t normally see them in device manager. What you have to do is set a less-known flag to allow you to see non-present devices, and then launch device manager. You’ll then see the old devices in the list, and can uninstall the drivers for them. In Windows 7 or Vista, the first thing you’ll need to do is open a command prompt in administrator mode. Type cmd into the start menu search box, and then use Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open in administrator mode. (You can also right-click on the command prompt and choose Run as Administrator) Now paste in the following line: Then type in devmgmt.msc to start up Device Manager from the administrator command prompt: This tip also works the same in Windows 7, Vista, and XP.

Last year we explained how you can create your own wireless ad hoc connection in Windows Vista, the same steps are applicable in Windows 7 as well. Last month we covered a tool called Connectify which help turn your Windows 7 into a virtual WiFi HotSpot. Using Connectify was much more secure, faster, and easier than to simply create an Ad-Hoc Connection.

Today we found another great app called Virtual Router. Like Connectify it turns your computer into a virtual WiFi Hotspot allowing others to connect to your computer and use the internet. Just enter the Network Name, select a Password, choose the connection that you want to share and hit Start Virtual Router. Once done, you will see all other computers that are connected to your WiFi under Peers Connected. It works on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 only because they have a new build-in Wireless Hosted Network(also called Virtual WiFi) technology. How is it different from Ad-Hoc?
