Lunching with Peter (Rabbit) and Alice (in Wonderland) On April 5, 2014 - a local church invited hosts to decorate tables and to invite six of their friends to share a community luncheon.

Lunching with Peter (Rabbit) and Alice (in Wonderland)

I decided to host two tables and in wanting to make a statement, I choose two literary themes. One was Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit and the other featured Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Here's a peek at the table finery. Alice in Wonderland Alice's table featured a mix-matched table setting, but with coordinated dishes in a blue, burnt orange, and taupe. The plates had a scroll design while the plates (blue or burnt orange) were solid color but with a scalloped edge of sorts. In the center of the table was the opened pop-up book created by Robert Sabuda. It's a marvelous book with 24 pop-ups through out the book. The tea cup tower was comprised of consignment shop pieces of mismatched cups and saucers - with one teacup with the same design as the cups used with the dinner ware but in a different style.

Middle School Summer Reading Program

Reading a good book during the summer enhances student achievement and stimulates a lifelong interest in reading for pleasure. We understand that students work hard all year and some families feel that it’s ok to “give them a break” from school work during the summer. As literacy professionals we feel that reading will always be an important part of life and it shouldn't stop just because school did.

In order to continue with the academic rigor we require during the school year, we are beginning a mandatory summer reading assignment for all students attending Northbridge Middle School. Students are required to read one book from the suggested titles for their grade level, or one book of their choosing. Constitution Day Resources for Middle School & High School (ages 12 and up) As we celebrate Constitution Day on September 17th, we need to draw our children into the essential question one of my students asked last week: How is our constitution relevant today if it was written so long ago?

Constitution Day Resources for Middle School & High School (ages 12 and up)

Spur their interest with the contradictions inherent in the way the Constitution treated African Americans, but also show them how it protects their own rights today. Today I'm sharing resources I've collected that will help middle school and high school students explore the way the Constitution establishes basic structure of our government, the responsibilities of each branch of government, and the basic rights afforded all Americans. MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL resources: I'd like to end by sharing this video produced by the National Constitution Center. I found it a very effective way to bring students into thinking about what rights the Constitution guarantees that matter to them. Today. Yesterday I shared resources that are more appropriate for younger elementary students.
