Encouraging a group of which one is a member to get things done; and at the same time maintaining good relations within the group; organizing group activities and seeing that they happen.

The Seven Characteristics of a Good Leader. Updated 01/2014 How can we determine not only who is a competent leader, but a good leader? Some, like Tom Lickona of the Smart and Good Schools Initiative, believe the proper distinction is between moral and performance character. The former typically refers to having sound values, to be oriented toward an ethical way to behave; the latter refers to the essential importance of having the skills -- particularly SEL skills-- to carry out one's values.

What does this mean for leadership? From a social-emotional and character development (SECD) perspective, it means that the skill-based performance of leaders must be judged along with the character of that performance. Sargent Shriver, whose leadership credentials are unrivaled in American public service, believed leaders must act and infuse their organizations with: 1) A sense of purpose: The values of an organization must be clear, members of the organization should know them, and they should exemplify and uphold them in their own actions.

Movies That Inspire Kids to Change the World. Positive Role Model TV for Girls. Louder Than a Bomb. Louder Than A Bomb tells the story of four Chicago high school poetry teams as they prepare to compete in the world's largest youth slam. By turns hopeful and heartbreaking, the film captures the turbulent lives of these unforgettable kids, exploring the ways writing shapes their world, and vice versa. Louder Than A Bomb is not about "high school poetry" as we often think of it.

It's about language as a joyful release, irrepressibly talented teenagers obsessed with making words dance. While the topics they tackle are often deeply personal, what they put into their poems—and what they get out of them—is universal: the defining work of finding one's voice. Winner of more than fifteen festival prizes, including ten audience awards, Louder Than A Bomb has been hailed as "powerful and exhilarating" (TimeOut Chicago), "inspiring" (L.A.

Times), "irresistible" (Chicago Tribune), "vibrant and moving" (The Wrap), and "a get-up-and-clap kind of movie (Paste)". Chasing Ice. The Crash Reel. This eye-popping film seamlessly combines twenty years of stunning action footage with new specially-shot verité footage and interviews as it follows U.S. champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce and exposes the irresistible but potentially fatal appeal of extreme sports.

An escalating rivalry between Kevin and his nemesis Shaun White in the run-up to the 2010 Olympics leaves Shaun on top of the Olympic podium and Kevin in a coma follow- ing a training accident in Park City, Utah. Kevin's tight-knit Vermont family flies to his side and helps him rebuild his life as a brain injury survivor. But when he insists he wants to return to the sport he still loves, his family intervenes with his eloquent brother David speaking for all of them when he says, “I just don’t want you to die.” Kevin’s doctors caution him that even a small blow to the head could be enough to kill him. Will Kevin defy them and insist on pursuing his passion? With his now impaired skills, what other options does he have? Pray the Devil Back to Hell. " "The contrast between THE COMPASSION OF WOMEN and the facade of officialdom as a cover for a cruel dictator makes the point much better than a long judgmental tirade"—Jean-Marie Guehenno, UN Undersecretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, 2000-2008 Synopsis. Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom (Age 5+) Two things set this story of Harriet Tubman apart from the many others on the market. The first is the focus of the text. Rather than a simple retelling of the known events of her life, this is instead a somewhat fictionalized account of Tubman's spiritual journey. As told in the swirling, lyrical writing, filled with rhythm and internal rhyme, these are her conversations with God, whose voice she hears in the breeze and the songs of birds, whose face she sees reflected in moonlight on swamp water.

The book consists primarily of these conversations, before, during, and after her flight, laid out in clever typography that enhances the meaning. The second is the artwork, a series of two-page, borderless paintings that are nothing short of spectacular. Wonder Women!
