L’ouverture est extrêmement importante, mais ce n’est pas à une assemblée comme celle de Lift qu’il y a des gens à convaincre. Pour autant, on sait qu’on ne peut pas tout ouvrir : les gens n’auraient pas envie qu’on publie toutes les déclarations d’impôts ou tout ce qu’ils font sur l’internet. La société repose donc sur un équilibre entre la fermeture et l’ouverture. La Young Foundation a soutenu de nombreux projets ouverts comme l’ Open University , les écoles ouvertes et de nombreux projets essayant d’ouvrir le monde de la santé.
