Charting that subtle space between wake and sleep - familiar yet remote, the artistic duo have been recording their supernatural visions and then recreating them via photography. The project deals with the stage of Non Rapid Eye Movement sleep, during which some people may experience hypnagogic hallucinations caused by natural process of falling asleep. Experimenting with those lucid dreaming techniques they usually woke themselves up in the middle of the night to make a note of what they had just seen, gathering their dreams to be staged afterwards.

Ik begreep wat hij bedoelde, want als je in Leiden of Amersfoort het station uitloopt wanneer je er toevallig dertig jaar niet meer geweest bent, dan schrik je je dood. Overal om je heen van die vastgoedarchitectuur, die met het geld van pensioenfondsen is neergezet. En zo kun je nog een tijdje doorgaan in Nederland. De verbazing over de inrichting van ons land was een terugkerend thema in dat boek. De vorm van die foto beviel mij meteen. Net als halverwege de jaren negentig bij Hollandse Velden – een boek over amateurvoetbal in Nederland – had ik het gevoel dat ik niet bij de hoofdklasse moest zijn, maar op eenvoudiger plaatsen.
