http://www.scoop.it/t/web-content-digital-curation Much of Buddhist philosophy centers around this same idea, this balance between what’s being phrased as “intention” and “attention” – our intentional curiosity about knowledge and growth, and our choice of where to focus our awareness, what to pay attention to. So that, I think, is the role of information curators: They are our curiosity sherpas, who lead us to things we didn’t know we were interested in until we, well, until we are. Until we pay attention to them — because someone whose taste and opinion we trust points us to them, and we integrate them with our existing pool of resources, and they become a part of our networked knowledge and another LEGO piece in our combinatorial creativity. So if information discovery plays such a central role in how we fuel our creativity and thus in our creative output, then information discovery is a form of creative labor in and of itself. An absolute must read, from Maria Popova , master curator.

Getting Started

Curated.by let's you collect & organize topic based content (media, links, tweets) into bundles. Bundles are collections of content around a specific topic, like "The Beatles" or "Technology". Our homepage is designed to give you a quick overview about your friends activity on curated.by. - Bastian Lehmann
http://www.siliconvalleywatcher.com/mt/archives/2010/04/the_curation_bu.php Posted by Tom Foremski - April 12, 2010 My buddy Dave Galbraith is the first person I remember to first start talking about curation and the Internet, several years ago. He even named his company Curations, and created a tool/site for curation: Wists . And his site SmashingTelly - is great example of curation, a hand-picked collection of great videos. Today, much is written about curation and the Internet but it all seems mostly talk because we don't really have the tools we need. Curation seems to be just a new way to describe things like blogging and "Editor's Picks."

He started with books, an industry ripe for disruption, and moved onto, well, everything else. At this point, his vision has come true." As Bezos wrote to his shareholders: "I am emphasizing the self-service nature of these platforms because it’s important for a reason I think is somewhat non-obvious: even well-meaning gatekeepers slow innovation. When a platform is self-service, even the improbable ideas can get tried, because there’s no expert gatekeeper ready to say “that will never work!”

What is curation?

http://www.contentcurationmarketing.com/articles/18383/content-curation-fair-use-5-rules-to-being-an-ethi/ Recently, Kimberley Isbell of the Nieman Journalism Lab cited a Harvard Law report and published an extensive post on news aggregation and legal considerations . From a curation perspective, the whole article is interesting, but what was the most surprising was that her recommendations for being an ethical content aggregator, were the same as being an effective content curator. The five recommendations are below. You can read the full article for the legal justifications for abiding by these practices. However, I have provided some reason on why you would want to follow these guidelines from a content marketing perspective: 1.

Can 'Curation' Save Media?

http://www.businessinsider.com/can-curation-save-media-2009-4 There is a trend evolving at media companies both big and small that promises to have a remarkably positive impact on what you read, watch, and share on the web: Curation. It's not a popular thing to say that things are okay in media. In fact, the changes taking place are useful, necessary, and will in short order result in better editorial experiences, because as shown in the press daily, the sky is falling in old media. But, happily, the future is right around the corner. First, media companies need to shed their historic connection to their delivery systems. Newspapers and magazines are both deeply connected to their size, shape, and the feel of their paper.
