Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot | Ed Tech Diva. Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah) with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree, attempting to hide their impatience. Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products – and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a “hard reset” was we were on our way. While they’re wondrous little devices capable of enchanting learners for hours, to get the learning results you’re likely after will take planning, design, and reflection. It can help to start out by asking yourself some important questions, such as “What can the iPad do that is not possible without it? Put another way, what problems does the iPad solve?” But the learning environment you’re starting with can make a big difference as well.
Below are 4 distinct areas of instruction and instructional design that can help frame the concept of iPad integration. There is more to the conversation, but rather than overwhelm you (not that you couldn’t handle it), it seemed better to simply start your thinker. PicLab 2.0 Does Much More Than Add Text And Masks To Your Photos. Released in the App Store just over a couple of months ago, PicLab has now been updated to version 2.0. It's worth noting that with the app's 2.0 update, PicLab has made the transition from an app that merely adds text and masks to photos to a photo-editing app that does that and more. For starters, PicLab 2.0 introduces nine new filters to enhance the look of your photos: Vibrant, Vegas, Renee, Monroe, Nevada, Cinema, Kruger, Danford, and Saga.
PicLab 2.0 also adds support for image effects. With the newly updated app, you can now adjust the brightness, contrast, blur, exposure, and saturation levels of your photos. PicLab[/caption] The update also adds an image grid for when you are repositioning text, allowing you to, say, center text more easily. Hopscotch Technologies' New App Can Teach Kids to Code. Hopscotch HD is a precursor or introduction to coding. Hopscotch calls this coding for kids: an iPad programming language. How an iPad is a More Powerful Content-Creation Device Than a Laptop. That the iPad is a great content-consumption device has never been disputed. But just 30 months after its launch the iPad is now in some ways a more powerful content-creation device than a laptop in the hands of students in the classroom. When the iPad was introduced in 2010, my school (Wanganui Park Secondary College) was one of a handful in Victoria that included them on the booklist for the following year, a move that raised eyebrows! Critics decried the iPad as “a content-consumption but not a content-creation device”.
Admittedly, at first there was limited content creation software available – there was no way to make or edit a movie, take or edit a photo, record or edit a podcast or screencast, or even to annotate a PDF! Now 2.5 years down the track, the iPad is a swiss army knife of content-creation tools. It can be used to make movies, music, podcasts and screencasts. Spacecraft 3D uses augmented reality technology to bring NASA spacecraft to life on your iPad. To get started using the app you first need to print out the spacecraft target codes. The spacecraft then becomes a 3D model that your students can explore. My friend Marcus Zarra recently asked me if I would write an update on how I'm using my iPad for productivity. How has my hardware/software workflow evolved over time? I think the last time I wrote about this was pre-iCloud so I thought an update was well overdue. Also, as I recently moved to an iPad mini for most of my daily iPad use, it's been an interesting and useful chance to think through the use cases once more. I guess the first thing to say is that the 'reboot' onto the iPad mini has been largely very smooth.
It's probably worth mentioning here how I get that cellular access. So, what do I do with this thing? Cloud Services I use three main cloud services: iCloud, Evernote and Dropbox. iCloud is generally working very well for me.
