The Hungry Gwailo. To be honest, I don't entirely like travelling to the mainland (China that is) very often.

The Hungry Gwailo

People are generally pretty pushy, people are quite rude, and everyone is out to make money, and if that means unashamedly ripping you off (or worse, robbing you) then fair game. Not to mention everyone speaks mandarin, which whilst I can speak a little of, I really hate doing so. It's not nice or smooth like Cantonese, it's abrasive and surgical.

However, most of my complaints don't really count when it comes to Shanghai. Shanghai is so much more cosmopolitan than other cities in China. Whatever, I love Shanghai. I love going down to Yuyuan Gardens and getting the crab and pork xiao long bao from the famous Nanxiang Steam Bun restaurant, the supposed birthplace of the Xiao Long Bao dumpling (yeah, take that Din Tai Fung devotees!). One of the other great joys of the former french district in Shanghai is as you start to explore the back alleys is the street dining scene. Ryan Cheng Photography. Über einen separaten Eingang an der Nathan Road kann die Einkaufspassage Cke (Chungking Express) betreten werden. InterContinental Hong Kong, Hong Kong, S.A.R., China. Amazing restaurant choices - SPOON by Alain Ducasse, NOBU and the fabulously-successful Steakhouse (with your choice of antipasti bar, mustard and designer steak knife).

InterContinental Hong Kong, Hong Kong, S.A.R., China

One of the most highly regarded hotels in the world, the InterContinental Hong Kong, takes luxury accommodations and service, and pushes it to incredible new levels. Take in the gasp-inducing panoramic view while soaking in one of three infinity pools overlooking the city. Watch the sun set over Hong Kong as you have a martini in the Lobby Lounge. Many of the 495 rooms also have harbor views - a select few have outdoor spa pools. Suggestion: get the Club InterContinental service, which includes a private lounge, cocktails, and appetizers. You're steps from the Star Ferry Terminal and Mass Transit Railway, so you can easily get anywhere in the city. Jennychoiman. Hong Kong: 10 Things to Do — 5. Temple Street Night Market.

Hong Kong: 10 Things to Do — 2. Lin Heung Tea House. Proletarian clientele vie for shabby seats at shared tables as ceiling fans whir and an ancient wall clock keeps time — rather pointlessly, given that it's forever 1962 at the Lin Heung ("Fragrant Lotus") Tea House.

Hong Kong: 10 Things to Do — 2. Lin Heung Tea House

But if you're going to have dim sum only once during your stay in Hong Kong, this is the place. A decades-old parlor in Hong Kong's Central District, Lin Heung makes no concessions to modernity or to English speakers, so be prepared for pantomime or go with a Cantonese-speaking friend. But what Lin Heung does offer is a tasty and unmediated slice of Old Hong Kong. (Don't leave without trying the lotus paste buns or the glutinous rice dumplings.) The city's culinary and cultural authenticity are potently concentrated in a few surviving places like this. Hotel ICON , Hong Kong, Hong Kong - 1708 Guest reviews.

Business hotel in Hong Kong. Mira Moon (Wanchai, Hong Kong) Mira Moon’s state-of-the-art and graceful architecture, high ceilings, and open-plan public spaces are the result of cooperation between internationally-renowned design atelier AB Concept and Hong Kong-headquartered Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects & Engineers (HK) Ltd.

Mira Moon (Wanchai, Hong Kong)

AB Concept's sleek designs complement the hotel’s ancient Chinese fairytale theme. Here, traditional Chinese craftsmanship shines through, with carved timber paneling and orangey-yellow carpets. The bedrooms take full advantage of the Hong Kong skyline, with floor-to-ceiling windows running parallel to the plump white beds. Spotlights embedded in the latticed wooden ceilings provide additional luminosity, as do the wavy white shelves, which peak and trough away from the walls. Oriental carpets, glazed ceramic vases, and rose-red floral window blinds hint once again at early Chinese myths, making Martin Lee’s genre-busting new hotel—among the cafés, bars, and galleries of Wan Chai—a beauty to behold.
