Envelope Style Makeup Bag Tutorial: Boho Blossom

Finished one flip flop beach bag today. Only 19 to go! K emailed me today and wanted a quick pattern for a make-up bag she can make in one evening. I found quite a few tutorials and freebies online, but they all had zippers. I thought I would try to come up with one that doesn't have a zipper, since I doubt she has one on hand. My first one was cute, but way too small. This one came out very cute and didn't take too long. For this make-up bag you will need 2 FQ's: one outside fabric and 1 lining Paper to draw your pattern Stiff fusible interfacing or fusible fleece Small piece of velcro One button Ruler I happened to have a template for the envelope top of the bag, but you can draw this, it should be 10" wide at the bottom. Draw another pattern for the bag body.

Cut two of the bag body from each fabric. With right sides together stitch around the curved edge of the envelope top, leave bottom open. Press under 1/2" along top edge of the bag body. Now that my university is closed for winter holidays, I finally have more free time to do all the crafty things I’ve been wanting to.

Plastic Cup Lamp

One of these is a lamp made from plastic cups I’ve seen at taf, the art foundation, in the Monastiraki region in the center of Athens. When I first saw it at taf, I was amazed; I looked closely and I couldn’t believe my eyes! The object itself is so peculiar, modern and alien-like it could be in any design exhibition. With my best friend’s birthday coming up, I decided to make it myself and give it to her as a gift. It turns out it was the easiest craft I’ve even done, the epitome of DIY objects!

When Easter is over and all the colored eggs have been collected, you will undoubtedly be making egg salad and tossing all those pretty colorful shells in the garbage or the compost pile.

Egg Shell Mosaic Vase

Well don’t toss them away just yet! Let them air dry on some paper towels and set them aside in a shallow bowl. Then you can make a pretty egg shell mosaic project, maybe even a vase like this! My good friends over at DecoArt sent me a bottle of their brand new decoupage medium to try out. I had already set aside all my egg shells, so I sat down on the craft room and got to work. Do you remember these kitchen utensil holders that I made from plastic beanie baby containers? First you’ll need to dry out your egg shells. Learning how to sew a zipper is what separates a beginner sewer from an intermediate (and intermediate sounds way better, right?).

Oilcloth Zippered Pencil Case

We've got a fun and really easy project to help you learn the zipper sewing process with this oil cloth pencil case. You can substitute with cotton if you'd like as well but oil cloth will hold its shape much better. Oil cloth zipper (mine was 8'') pins scissors sewing machine and matching thread Measure your zipper across and cut two matching pieces of oil cloth the same length x 4'' height. My zipper was 8'' so my oil cloth pieces were 8'' x 4''. right sides together, place one oil cloth piece on top of the zipper, lining up the edges Sew a simple basting stitch (and long loose stitch) to hold is in place temporarily. It should look like this after you finish the basting stitch.

Using a zipper foot on your sewing machine, sew along that basting stitch, very close- but not on top of the metal zipper. iPhone Sleeve {Mini Tutorial} Recycled Crafts - Recyclable Crafts for Kids - Recycling Craft Ideas. page corner bookmarks

I used to believe that a person could never have too many books, or too many bookmarks. Then I moved into an apartment slightly larger than some people’s closets (and much smaller than many people’s garages) and all these beliefs got turned on their naïeve little heads. But what a person can always look for more of is really cool unique bookmarks. Placeholders special enough for the books that are special enough to remain in your culled-out-of-spacial-necessity collection. Page corner bookmarks are cute, practical and deeply under-represented in the world.* They’re easy to make, easy to customize, and will set you apart from all those same-same flat rectangular bookmarks. If you like this tutorial, here are a couple others that might be up your alley. For the monster-loving adults in the room, try some googly-eyed paper monster wine charms. 101 Crafty Gifts.
