We use math on a daily basis, even at an online college! There are many activities that teachers can utilize to help their students learn math while also having fun! Doing hands on math activities with your child or a group of students helps give them a sense of ownership over their own work. Children will remember the fun activity they did in class or at home, as well as the skill set they learned. Here are a few fun and easy activities that can be done with students at all different grade levels: Geometry "Understanding Properties of Scalene Triangles" Grades appropriate: 4-9 Materials Needed: A sheet of blank paper straight edge protractor Instructions: Have students draw 10 different triangles on their sheets of blank paper.

This lesson helps students determine the properties of scalene triangles. Consumer/Everyday Math "Grocery Store" Grades appropriate: 4-6 Materials Needed: grocery store advertisements pencils paper.

How about some fun math games to keep the kiddos entertained while they learn math at the same time? Here are ten of my favorite math games! Toddler Counting – $0.99 Toddler Counting is a simple app that lets little ones count each item. When they touch it, the number appears and the word is said. PopMath - $0.99 PopMath is a timed game, so you get to compete against yourself. KidCalc – $0.99 KidCalc has many different types of math games to play. I’ve set up KidCalc to handle only numbers from 1-3 in the addition game.

SumsStacker - $1.99 Great for middle school or secondary school aged kids, Sums Stacker is one of those math games that’s not so blatant with the math. Algebra Touch – $2.99 I discovered this iPhone app at a family party. This app is great for kids learning or practicing algebra concepts – as early as middle school. 5 Fun Free iPad Math Game Apps

We checked out a bunch of free math games for the iPad that can help younger students reinforce their math basics, focusing only on those rated 4 stars or better. There are quite a few of these. As of this morning, there were 92 apps that come up by searching the App Store for “math games” that are free and have ratings of 4 or higher. We ranked them by popularity and then tried a bunch of the popular ones, looking for apps that provide good functionality for free (as opposed to the many ‘free’ apps that are really just teases to buy a full version).

Here are five that we liked (some of these do have fuller versions or companion apps that you have to pay for, but the free versions here offer useful gaming without requiring registration or fees).
