Folding circle animation

http://www.wholemovement.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56%3Aanimation&catid=21%3Ahow-to-fold-circles&Itemid=43 As part of our new animation project we've upload the first of three sequences that show how folded circles re-combine into a spherical pattern. This first animation demonstrates what Buckminster Fuller call the Vector Equilibrium . Since circles are compressed spheres, they contain all of the information of the original form. Folding the circle decompresses the information, allowing us to observe and discover the patterns contained within. This animation deomnstrates how the first three diameter creases allow the formation of the VE spherical form.
There's also some polyhedra studies, logarithmic spirals, fractals (only the first few iterations or they'd be impossible to color!) and some miscellaneous. This is an 8 inch by 11 inch book with images printed on each side of a sheet. There is another version with the same material called an Infinite Coloring Book . http://www.tabletoptelephone.com/%7Ehopspage/HopsTiles.html

Expand Your Mind - Puzzles and Brain Teasers

To expand your mind you need to learn new facts and develop new modes of thinking that will make the information that you already know more useful. Solving the following problems requires a combination of world knowledge, mathematics, common sense, logic, and science (chemistry, physics). This is not an IQ test. There is no time limit.

http://home.comcast.net/~stegmann/home.htm I have been collecting mechanical puzzles (aka brainteasers, Geduldspiele , casse-têtes , hlavolamy , puslerier , puzzels , rompecabezas , パズル , головоломка , 难题 , الألغاز , σπαζοκεφαλιά , פזלים , ลูกบิด , पहेली , uganke , gestaþraut ) for many years and from many places. I have been asked, "Don't you have enough frustration in your life?" Evidently not... At last count, there are 4582 puzzling items (including over 225 puzzle-related books) shown or described. That may seem like a lot, but there are people who own tens of thousands of puzzles - and who must have very understanding spouses ! I like most kinds of puzzles, and I really enjoy interlocking puzzles, hidden-mechanism/secret-opening boxes, and tanglement puzzles.

A Burr Puzzle consists of at least three rods intersecting each other at right angles. The most famous and well known type is the six piece burr where three sets of two rods intersect each other. At this site we let you explore six piece burrs. You can select either from a list of a few precalculated burrs, or you can select six pieces of your own making and then have us calculate the possible solutions for you. Note, that you will need a Java enabled browser to visit some pages of this site. http://www.research.ibm.com/BurrPuzzles/index.html

I've put Sam Loyd's Cyclopedia of 5000 Puzzles, Tricks, and Conundrums , sometimes called the Cyclopedia of Puzzles , entirely online . You can view individual pages , or download a zipped file of the entire book. I could perhaps close the column there, due to fame of the Cyclopedia , heretofore unavailable online. Take a look . How famous?

Vi Hart 's videos have been the most popular math item in months, even showing up on cable news shows. My favorites are Doodling Snakes and Binary Trees . Her father is the polyhedreally-famous George Hart , who is currently the chief advisor for the Museum of Mathematics (which recently started selling the Tetraxis ). Robert Abbott: I just added something to my web site about City Mazes , and I thought you might want to say something about it. Mostly I talk about the use of walk-through Logic Mazes in cities, and I discuss three festivals that used them.
