20-Year-Old Hunter S. Thompson’s Superb Advice on How to Find Your Purpose and Live a Meaningful Life

Thompson — gonzo journalism godfather, pundit of media politics, dark philosopher — penned to his friend Hume Logan in 1958. Found in Letters of Note: Correspondence Deserving of a Wider Audience (public library | IndieBound) — the aptly titled, superb collection based on Shaun Usher’s indispensable website of the same name — the letter is an exquisite addition to luminaries’ reflections on the meaning of life, speaking to what it really means to find your purpose. Cautious that “all advice can only be a product of the man who gives it” — a caveat other literary legends have stressed with varying degrees of irreverence — Thompson begins with a necessary disclaimer about the very notion of advice-giving: The Short but Powerful Guide to Finding Your Passion. “The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play.” - Arnold Toynbee Post written by Leo Babauta.

Following your passion can be a tough thing. But figuring out what that passion is can be even more elusive. Find Your Passion - Advice to Find Your Dream Job, Change Careers, and Start a Business. Live Oprah's Lifeclass is streaming live now!

9 Feel-Good Ways to Say YES to Your Dreams

Sign up today! The people who often inspire us to dream big and follow our passions are the ones who dare to blaze the trail of the unknown, fueled by their dreams. In a candid interview with Amanda de Cadenet on The Conversation, Lady Gaga said that she dropped out of school at 19 and worked three jobs to support her passion for singing. What if she’d been too scared to go for it? Pursuing your passion may not be an easy road.

Here are nine ways to help you move forward and say YES to your dreams: 1. If you’re scared to do something, it’s a sign you’re headed in the right direction. 2. Have you ever heard the saying, “You are the average of the five people you most often surround yourself with”? 3. How a $100 Turned Into a Life Changing Project. The past few weeks (okay, more than just the past few weeks) have been very quiet on this blog.

How a $100 Turned Into a Life Changing Project

I’ve found little time to post here because I’ve been busy working on a new project for you all…something I think you’re going to like. I originally started this blog to share lessons & insights from my journey to live a more meaningful life. I thought if I shared what I had learned it would inspire someone else to do the same. But somehow it has turned into something much bigger than I had ever imagined. I want to share my new project with you, but first I want to give you the back story.

There are few people whose blogs I follow religiously. It was through Scott that I learned about Natalie Sisson. Last year, along with 1,000 other amazing people with big plans, Natalie attended The World Domination Summit in Portland, OR. Ps. I heard a lot of remarkable things happened at that event, as evidenced by the pictures. How cool is that? No matter what you do as a living , this video makes sense to your life. Sailing Through Life: How Not To Crash and Burn

Know what you want. This seems too simplistic but it’s amazing how many people are frustrated living in a life that they don’t want. The irony is that they’ve never taken the time to discover what it is they do want. If you ask these people what their ideal life would look like, they’ll give you a list of things that are “not this.” The more these people focus on getting the opposite of what they have now, the more they’ll get more of what they already have. If you don’t know where you’re going, how can you ever begin to get there? “We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.” ~ C.
