Husband of murdered outback nurse to campaign for greater protections for remote health workers

Gayle Woodford, 56, was brutally raped and murdered by Dudley Davey in March last year after being lured away from her home at Fregon, in SA's north. Davey, 35, was jailed for at least 32 years today with a judge describing his offending as "cold-blooded" and "callous in the extreme". Mrs Woodford's death has sparked a wider debate over the safety of outback nurses and other workers with calls for legislation to end single shifts and solo call-outs, which has become known as "Gayle's Law". A tearful Mr Woodford said his wife was dedicated to the people of Fregon. "As to the future, I'm going to devote my life to the loving memory of Gayle by supporting the welfare of all nurses working in regional and remote areas," he told reporters after Davey was sentenced. © Nine Digital Pty Ltd 2017.

Police are investigating whether the Somalian-born Roxburgh Park man deliberately lured them into a deadly ambush after it was revealed he had booked a female escort, whom he took hostage, and triggered an alert on his tracker. Officers received calls to reports of “explosions” just after 4pm at the Bay Street apartments yesterday and arrived to find the body of a Chinese-born Australian man who was working in the apartment’s foyer when he was shot by Khayre. The 29-year-old, who was on parole, was holed up in one of the ground floor apartments with a shotgun and the female escort, and called the Channel Seven newsroom, stating: “This is for IS, this is for al-Qaeda”.

Md Hedge was working at a bar at the Borough Markets with her boyfriend Luke when the attack, which killed seven people and wounded 48 other, erupted. Schapelle Corby’s return to Australia this Saturday is in doubt, and it’s all her own fault.
