Enjoy.

I learned from Christine Pinto an idea of modifying the slide layout to create layouts with different colored backgrounds. This allows different groups to contribute to the same Google Slides. Students are assigned to a color group and any slides that group contributes to the collaborative Google Slides utilizes that colored slide. Template alicekeeler.com/groupslides Slides Share the same Google Slides template with the entire class.

Google Classroom users will be able to use the option “Students can edit file.” Groups It is easier to share group work when all groups do their work in the same Google Slides presentation. Layouts In the upper left part of the toolbar is a plus icon to add a slide. Copyright secured by Digiprove © 2016. Student Guide to Collaborative Google Slides - Teacher Tech. An easy way to have students start collaborating is to use Google Slides. Do not feel you need to create templates for students for every assignment, students can and should start from scratch and know how to share. To have students collaborate on a Google Slides presentation, one group member needs to create a Slides presentation. The “group leader” will want to click on the blue share button and add the email addresses of group members to allow them to edit the Slides presentation. The group leader will need to click on the presentation title to rename. Students are able to add slides and collaborate together on the same document.

When students are finished with their presentation, the group leader marks “Turn in” in Google Classroom. Copyright secured by Digiprove © 2015. Google Docs: Prompt Students to Make a Copy - Teacher Tech. A feature of the old Google spreadsheets was to be able to append &newcopy to the end of the URL. What this would do is when you share a view only link with a student, it would prompt the student to make a copy. This is a feature I used all the time with students and sharing templates with colleagues. Unfortunately this feature no longer works with the new Google Sheets. New to Google Docs is now the ability to replace the /edit at the end of the URL and replace it with /copy.

This has the same functionality that the old feature had. The /copy works with ALL types of documents. In the URL up in the address bar delete the /edit at the end of the link. Example The URL on this Google Drawing is DELETE the /edit and replace with /copy Notice when you click on the link that it prompts you to make a copy of the drawing. Google Classroom: Edit Slides Not Copy - Teacher Tech. Link to Slides presentation Old school thinking back when we used PowerPoint was to create copies of the presentations for back up files or to just update the presentation. Emailing a copy of PowerPoint creates a copy of the document.

Any updates to the presentation by the author are not represented in the copy. Sharing PowerPoints can result in “who has the official version?” I never want to have version confusion ever again. One Version Always Paradigm shift for using Google Apps is there is only ONE version. Teaching is too hard to do it alone. Revision History Revision history in Google Apps show what edits were made and when. Collaborate with Students One of my favorite features about Google Classroom is how quickly I can have all students in the class collaborating together. Note: Please do me a favor and send feedback to Google Classroom to change the wording to “Students can collaborate on file.” Using Google Slides allows for you to create interactive learning experiences. If you are a user of Google Slides presentation tool you may want to take it to the next step and create your own templates instead of always using the default theme.

One reason to do this is for student projects. If you have a particular way you want students to put their project together, creating a template for them to use can help them to focus on the content rather than the font choice. Create a Google Presentation. Choose the Simple Light template. Decide what design pattern you want for your template. You may want to create a Google Drawing or use another editing program such as photoshop to create your designs.

If you are using Google Draw go to the File Menu and choose “Page Setup.” Choose the page size to be Widescreen 16:9 to match the default size of a Google Presentation. Under the View menu choose “Master.” Rename the slide template from “Simple Light” to whatever you would like to call it. Click on the Master slide. Click on the different layouts underneath the “Master.” Google Slides: Ask Questions DURING a Presentation - Teacher Tech. A typical drawback of presenting is the challenge of interactivity. Even though we want people to ask us questions during a presentation, it can be difficult for audience members to ask. A new feature in Google Slides aims to fix that. Q&A During the Presentation Google Slides now allows the presenter to solicit questions from the audience during the presentation. The presenter is able to see the questions posted, as is the audience. Audience members can vote up the question to ensure the most important questions are highlighted.

Present Button When presenting in Slides, click on the arrow next to the present button. Turn On Questions From the speaker notes floating window, choose to “Start new” question session. Short URL A short URL is displayed as a header on the Slides presentation. Ask a Question Audience members are presented with a question window that allows them to submit a question. Vote Audience members can vote on the questions. Share the Questions Student Centered Guest Speakers. RealtimeBoard: Whiteboard for Collaboration. Two Ways to Grade Short Answer Questions in Google Forms. Last night I received an email from a reader who wanted me to clarify that is possible to grade short answer questions in the default "quizzes" mode. When you are selecting quiz settings in Google Forms you will need to choose the option for releasing grades "later, after manual review.

" Then you will need to manually score your students' responses to your short answer questions. Another way to accept and score fill-in-the-blank and short answer questions in Google Forms is to use the Google Sheets Add-on called Flubaroo for scoring responses. Flubaroo will let you have fill-in-the-blank responses automatically scored. When you create an answer key in Flubaroo you can specify one or more correct responses for each question. If you enable the automatic grading option in Flubaroo, students can receive their grades within seconds of submitting their final answers.Join my January 4th webinar Google Forms for Beginners to learn more about how to create and grade assessments in Google Forms.
