!Sew WE Quilt!: Search results for batiks scraps

This is Teresa of Fabric Therapy back again. I posted here back on October 6 and talked about "Shopping My Stash" and even revealed part of my hoard stash...otherwise known as "Teresa's giant wall o'stash. " I was asked if I might go into some detail about how I organize my stash and reveal even more of it. I have to tell you that revealing my stash is a little like showing people my underwear drawer...all of it, even the ratty stuff. I've been hoarding collecting fabric since the early 80's, and I'm not so much embarrassed at the size, but more my obsessive-compulsive organization of it. I sort in three major categories...yardage (including fat quarters), large scraps, and wee bits. For yardage, I fold based on fat quarters, which are roughly 18 x 22 inches. I used to store fabric in really big bins, but they were just too heavy and now I use boxes by Sterilite and Art Bin.

I can get two rows of stacked fabrics in a tall bin. So that brings me to how I sort yardage. Happy sorting! Patterns and supplies for quilters and fabric lovers: Home Page. Happy Zombie. August 2010

This weekend we drove 4 hours to the nearest mall for the Back to School stuff which was quite a painful process for my boy who hate shopping. We made it a weekend trip and the highlight for me was the going to the sporting goods store to decide which kayaks to buy. Tim thought it would be nice to get two and make it more of an activity for us and not just me and I'm all for that. We made our decesion and are waiting on the stores fall sale to place our order. My friend 'S' has lent me her kayak for a few weeks this summer and I have been enjoying it immensely so a BIG THANKS to 'S' for sharing your toys. Now to my quilt shopping. I also placed a new pantograph order at Willow Leaf Studio and have 10 new pantos coming this week.

Machine Quilting: Managing a Large Quilt Sandwich

Often my movement is blocked because the heavy quilt won't come over the edge of my working table. Can you give me some advice or suggestions where to find information about feehand machine quilting and what kind of sewing machine is best to do this kind of work. Answer: I do all my quilting on a regular size Bernina sewing machine. I find that I have better control and my body is better balanced if I move the foot control to my left foot. An added bonus is that I can operate the knee lift with my right knee, and never accidentally hit the foot control at the same time (thus making hairballs in the bobbin case). For large quilts I push together several tables, desks, etc. so that the entire weight of the quilt is supported on the table top.

Sometimes I spray a little silicone on the table top to make it more slippery.
