The Directory of Primitive Skills Gatherings and Knap-Ins of North America

For years i have searched the internet for information on "survival" or "outdoor skills" but with my dumb luck, never turned up much useful info. I finally "am a kid flipping burgers" (or used to be) so i had enough money to purchase a few books on the subject, including yours. Needless to say i have finally found some very useful skills to experiment with. Even though i have spent my whole life growing up in the suburbs, my most memorable experiences have always been of the outdoors, from family camping trips to boy scout backpacking excursions into the rockies, i have truly found happiness and fulfillment from nature.

Hammock Camping. 1.

Hammock Camping

Why would I sleep in a hammock? 2. How do I sleep in a hammock? The proper way to sleep in a hammock is on the diagonal. The hammock should have a fair amount of "sag" so it's not pulled tight. Once the sag is comfortable, climb in and lay with your feet on one side of the centerline and your head on the other side...diagonal across the center of the hammock. But I'm a stomach sleeper... Sleeping on the diagonal of a properly pitched hammock makes you lay almost flat, so it's possible to sleep on your stomach. I'm a side/stomach sleeper at home, but I find that after a night or two in the hammock, I'm more comfortable on my back and side.

One great thing about hammocks is the many positions you can sleep in that you don't get on the ground.
