Cold-Brewed Iced Coffee. Update 4/2014: Be sure to check out my new, improved cold-brewed iced coffee tutorial with step-by-step instructions and lessons learned since first posting about cold-brewed iced coffee. I started making my iced coffee this way a couple of years ago, thanks to this New York Times recipe that convinced me to do so. You add coffee grounds to cold water and let it sit at room temperature for several hours. Then you strain it through a coffee filter, and the result is a deep, rich, dark, and caffeine-packed glass of iced coffee. It’s a concentrate, so you’ll want to dilute it with water unless you’re in need of a serious buzz. And trust me – this stuff can pack a serious wallop.

I use a ratio of about 2/3 of the concentrate to 1/3 water, stir in a spoonful of sugar and some half-and-half, and finally I plop in some coffee ice cubes. Then I smile because life just got a little sweeter. And a lot more energized. Cold-Brewed Iced Coffee Total time Author: Kare Recipe type: Beverage. Homemade Coffee Creamer. My friends tell me the one thing they can’t give up is their flavored coffee creamer. I can understand. Creamy, sweet, smooth, with all sorts of different flavors to choose from.

The problem is the ingredients. Have you ever read what’s in those bottles? They are full of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup, and hydrogenated oils. As far as I can tell, most of them don’t even contain milk! So if you’re hooked on store-bought creamer then today’s your day. Next time you have friends over for a gathering, make a few batches of homemade coffee creamer, put them in cute bottles and have a coffee bar.

A great alternative to regular coffee is herbal coffee. *Since posting these recipes in September 2010, I have developed a few new recipes: Caramel Coffee Creamer and Honey Vanilla Coffee Creamer, Sugar Free and Dairy Free Coffee Creamer **Teeccino contains barley, so if you need to avoid gluten an organic decaf would be a better option. 50 Smoothies : Recipes and Cooking. 1. Cooked Custard Eggnog. Pumpkin Pie Smoothie. The Ultimate Strawberry Lemonade. One of the first times I ever realized that – HEY! I can cook for myself! – was when I first learned to make lemonade. I magically found the refrigerated lemon juice at our house and followed the directions to make my own lemonade.

I stirred and stirred and stirred again until that sugar was finally dissolved. Speaking of which, what gives sugar?! Why aren’t you easier to stir into cold drinks?! Sorry for the detour. Anyway, there was a summer there where I made my own lemonade every single day, making sure to rub it in my sister’s face that I knew how to and she didn’t. The key to this being the ultimate lemonade is that you blend it up with the lemon rind in there. And any time of day for that matter. (makes 2 pint-glass servings with ice) 3/4 cup sugar2 large lemons, microwaved for 30 seconds2 cups water1 cup of frozen strawberries, microwaved for 1 minute (you could use fresh, but I think the frozen works better here) Now if that doesn’t say summer, I don’t know what does. Strawberry Vodka. I was scrolling through Twitter recently and one of the folks that I follow mentioned “Strawberry Vodka.” Normally fruit-flavored vodka wouldn’t interest me, I was happy to hear about a simple recipe and technique from Sean Timberlake of Punk Domestics, and since it was strawberry season and my market was bursting with fresh berries, I decided to give it a go. I made it myself the following day and it was quick, and wonderful. The flavor of the vodka is like drinking syrupy berries in their prime with a kick of alcohol in the aftermath, and it could not be easier to make. It makes a great summer drink; just add an ice cube or two, and you’re ready to sip! By Sean Timberlake of Punk Domestics Vodka infusions were my gateway drug to DIY (Do-It-Yourself) food. In many ways, it’s my favorite form of preserving. The basics of vodka infusion couldn’t be simpler: Cut up fruit, steep in vodka, strain, drink.

Always use perfectly ripe, clean and organic fruit. Related Links and Recipes Spritz. Lavender Lemonade « Shindig 411. Strawberry Margarita Jell-O Shooters.
