Actor-network theory (ANT) - stswiki. Actor-network theory, often abbreviated as ANT, is a distinctive approach to social theory and research which originated in the field of science and technology studies. Although it is best known for its controversial insistence on the agency of nonhumans, ANT is also associated with forceful critiques of conventional and critical sociology.

Developed by two leading French STS scholars, Michel Callon and Bruno Latour, British sociologist John Law, and others, it can more technically be described as a 'material-semiotic' method. This means that it maps relations that are simultaneously material (between things) and 'semiotic' (between concepts). It assumes that many relations are both material and 'semiotic' (for instance the interactions in a bank involve both people and their ideas, and computers.

Together these form a single network). ANT tries to explain how material-semiotic networks come together to act as a whole. Background and context The concept of translation 1. 2. 3. 4. Criticism. Einführung in SCOT. Twitter.

Science 2.0 Leibniz-Forschungsverbund. Test Your Vocabulary - Result. Final result Your total vocabulary size is estimated to be: Share this test Invite your friends to take the test! This is the estimated number of entries in a standard dictionary for which you know at least one definition. Thanks for taking the test! Based on participations so far, we've already got some decent statistics. Most native English adult speakers who have taken the test fall in the range 20,000–35,000 words. And for foreign learners of English, we've found that the most common vocabulary size is from 2,500–9,000 words. However, we still need more data for complete analysis by age or education level, especially for participants under 15.

So please share this test, via sites like Facebook (), Twitter (new, share your score: ) , or by plain word-of-mouth. Over the coming months, we will continue to update our statistics as more data comes in.
