You see, I’ve been in a little bit of a situation lately when it comes to what I consider, “entertaining reading material.” As in, “entertaining reading material” apparently, to me, is “horrifically sad and disturbing reading material, which makes you rethink who you are as a person entirely.” You should know that this post will include some spoilers to books I’ve read, but you shouldn’t stop reading here, because what I’m trying to say is that you should not read any of the books I’ve subjected myself to. Essentially, you should thank me for spoiling these books so you are not tempted to do anything crazy like read them . See, I’m what one might call a wimp.

Ce qui nous gêne, ce qui revient comme une antienne dès que nous parlons d’un réseau social sur Internet, c’est le nombre d’amis que nous pouvons avoir. Car, sûr, dans la vraie vie, donc non-virtuelle, nous avons un, deux, voire une dizaine d’amis au maximum… Avoir un profil avec des centaines ou des milliers « d’amis » nous pose problème en tant qu’individu et en tant que bibliothécaire. En fait, ce terme d’amis est mal choisi.

If this isn't exactly right I don't know what else is. A good powerpoint presentation is the exact opposite of reading the slides out loud. Yet again and again I find myself in presentations where people do exactly that. It's a reminder to me that Powerpoint, intended as an aid to presentations, is much more frequently used in what can seem like a conscious effort to obfuscate. For instance, don't ever show anyone whose respect you want a slide that looks like the one to the left.

By Cory Doctorow at 2:09 am Monday, Jan 24 Siobhan Ambrose went looking for a WordPress theme; of the top ten free WordPress theme sites listed on Google, eight had hidden, obfuscated, or encrypted code buried in them that rendered spammy keyword links that were part of a deceptive search engine optimization scheme; in some cases, Siobhan couldn't figure out what the offending code did and speculates that it might contain malware. Of the remaining two, one hosted themes that didn't validate. The remaining site, WordPress.org, is the only site in the first ten Google results for "free wordpress theme" whose themes don't contain deceptive backlinks, obfuscated code, or non-validating themes.
