Using laser technology, an image of any kind can be engraved or etched onto materials such as leather, perspex, acrylic, wood, glass, marble, sliced bread and many fabrics. Engraving operates from normal image files such as tif, jpeg etc and these can either be emailed to us , or supplied on cd, paper etc. Here are just a few examples of the process; This is a project we worked on for Costume Cutter/Designer Jo Van Schuppen, The Costumer's Guide to Movie Costumes. The costumes in Atonement were designed by Jacqueline Durran.

This film is set in 1930s-40s England. There is an excellent blog here: Here's an exerpt: Atonement author Ian Mc Ewan, spent several pages on Cecilia choosing her dress for the eventful dinner in the novel. He describes her final choice, " As she pulled it on she approved of the firm caress of the bias cut through the silk of her petticoat, and she felt sleekly impregnable, slippery and secure; it was a mermaid who rose to meet her in her own full-length mirror. " Film director Joe Wright insisted to costume designer Jacqueline Durran that the gown must have the same feel.

The table size is 3 metres long, 1.5 metres wide and 900mm deep. Working from scanned/digital images, an operator scales up the image, splits/divides the model into pieces to fit the machine’s table size, plots the cutting paths and parameters and then sends the file to the router. The router then cuts the sculpture out of polystyrene, polyurethane, MDF or soft timber. The final pieces are then assembled and can then proceed to other moulding or finishing processes depending on what type of material the end product is to be made from. CNC machining is now an advanced way to automate processes previously done by hand. Large, one off sculptures for inclusion in film sets can now be handled in a more streamlined process. How cool does that sound? What does it mean? Our ethos is about democratising 3D digital modelling, re-drawing the conventional boundaries by using a software/hardware system that gives you the user a very real sense of touch for a more natural way of working. You have the opportunity to put the ‘passion’ back into digital creativity and the creative freedom to stretch the scope of your imagination.

And the great news is that our software/hardware system, our Anarkik 3D Design package that Farah is using in the video, is up for a 3DPrintShow Global Award in the ‘Best Consumer Software’ category. (You can vote for us at this link: as the award is voted for by the public and is not a panel vote. Add to this the readily available 3D printing facilities and your models can be transformed into real innovative customised objects, all at a fraction of the cost not previously thought possible.
