How To Give Your Photos a Dark Processed Lomo Effect. This post was originally published in 2010 The tips and techniques explained may be outdated. Follow this step by step post processing guide to give your photos a dark lomo style effect with high contrast, blue tones and vignette burns. The effect is based on the popular lomographic technique and is similar to the processing effect used in many fashion shots and advertisement designs. Overall this effect does a great job of adding impact to a plain photography with cool colour casts and unusual saturation.
View full size photo effect Begin by opening your photograph of choice into Adobe Photoshop. Go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and tweak the tones of the image. At the bottom of the Layers palette, click the Adjustment Layer icon and select Curves. Change the drop down menu to Green and tweak the graph for the green channel to further alter the tones of the image. Finally alter the Blue channel, creating an inverted ‘S’ shape to enhance the blues to give a cool colour cast. Dollar Store Crafts. Мастер-Классы. Ярмарка Мастеров - ручная работа, handmade. Is like an understatement? Well, good. Because starting in ONE WEEK we’re going to revel in ruffles. Ruffles rock, so we’re going to rock them. For 3 weeks. With 10 guests. 3 giveaways. Be prepared to be: As a little teaser to our 3 weeks full of ruffle madness, have a look at my $5 Anthropologie inspired ruffle shower curtain. Here is my post for last week’s project: Anthro Inspired Ruffle Shower Curtain I know what you’re thinking… Anthropologie inspired at the Dollar Store!? It can be done! So then I saw the plain boring shower curtains that were available at the dollar store. I picked up a few and made my own, with an all-white color palatte, which is trendy and oh-so-Anthro!
I made this baby for 5 bucks. Do YOU need a ruffle shower curtain too? All you’ll need is 5 cheapo vinyl shower curtains and your sewing machine. To get started, unfold your shower curtain and then refold it into eighths by folding it in half the longwise a few times. Cut 4 of the shower curtains into 10 inch strips. Coffee filter foof {tutorial} | jones design company. A few days ago the Nester posted about her fabulous coffee filter wreath. Miss Nester posted links to other impressive creations like this one made with natural coffee filters and this pretty one but I was in awe of this amazing light fixture She used a paper lantern ball and lots and lots of coffee filters.
Very impressive. All of this gave me an idea for an ornament {or a hanging foof in my case – sorry, I couldn’t come up with a better name for it}. Here’s what you need: :: styrofoam ball :: coffee filters :: scissors :: hot glue gun & glue STEP ONE: cover the styrofoam ball Simply flatten a filter and glue to adhere. The styrofoam melts slightly when you use hot glue, which is why I covered it. STEP TWO: create a foof fold a filter in half Then half again {quarters} and again {eighths} Now snip off the end and your piece is ready to adhere to the ball STEP THREE: glue foof piece to ball Put a glob of glue on the ball, then gently press the foof into place.
Keep going and going and going STEP FOUR: trim. Rosette Pillow. I'm sure you've all seen and been swooning over this pillow from Target Me too I just didn't have a spot in my house where the yellow would work. That, and it's no longer available. So, I attempted to make my own, and I really like how it turned out. Rosette Pillow Here's what you'll need: fabric for the body of the pillow (I used a grain sack found at a flea market for, wait for it...
And let me forewarn you, I am self taught when it comes to sewing. STEP ONE: Cut fabric for the rosettes. STEP TWO: Fold in each long side toward the center about a 1/2 inch and press with iron STEP THREE: Fold in half long ways and press with iron. Do this with all nine strips. You will not need to reopen the folds, but this is what the creases will look like if done properly STEP FOUR: Create the rosettes.
Bring the rest of the fabric up to form another 90 degree angle in the center and press with iron. Keep repeating the same process bringing the fabric in closer to the center each time. WAHOO!!! Because of it's unique size, it could be so many things...a large night stand, a child's chest of drawers, a chest for storage in an entryway. I used the paint that I put on this bench. An oops color that I thought was blue (because of the bench), but on this piece, it looks more gray. Either way, I love the end result! Love the bowed front! This seemed like an easy piece at first. ~Allison Linking here. DIY Warrior: How to Distress Wood. Blue-Gray Chest. I found this coffee table for $7.99 at G-Dub...that's what I call Goodwill ;). So ugly. What are those rails for? I know you can barely see the rails...of course I didn't take a great before photo...the table is in the middle with the fabric sitting on top.
Solid wood with a dovetailed drawer. I knew she'd be a bench when I saw her. Great curves and very sturdy. Here is after I pryed those rails off...still not sure what purpose they served. I asked my father-in-law to cut me a seat...and again he went above and beyond. I cut foam to fit the seat and put batting over it I painted the base an oops grayish blue that I found at HD for $1. I then distressed the bench and glazed it with provencial stain and attached the seat. Now, before you get the "after" pics, I must tell you that this table made me cry AND almost killed me. Anyway, after reading that story, you all deserve some after pics. It doesn't fit in with my bedroom, but it would be a super cute bench at the end of a bed. ~Allison. How To: Not Your Ordinary Book Light.
How To: Not Your Ordinary Book Light. Friends have regularly recommended books as being particularly illuminating, but I admit that after opening them I was as in the dark as ever. Since I’m not one to let a good metaphor go unmolested (and because design schools seem to constantly create designers who’s job it is to make ugly lamps) I made this. Yes, it's a reading light made from a book. It turns off when its closed and gives off a variable amount of light depending on how far you open it, up to about a 40W light equivalent.
It gives a nice warm, soft light and it looks right at home on my bedside table. Keep reading for all the instructions to make your own. Update: These instructions are for the wall powered unit.
