Science in the City: ipad. Students have completed three blog posts this year and each time the work has been improving. I am trying to have students write about content with as little restriction as possible. I want them to tell about what they have learned. I find that students are sometime crippled by the freedom to "write about what you learned" and need more specifics.

I often tell them they can write and tell about a lab they conducted. This often leads to describing the lab process and use of vocabulary, but does not hit the big "concept" ideas. Other students write about big ideas but don't give the details and specifics to show depth of understanding and often have shallow posts. At the same time some students are really surprising me with what they are writing about and they are amazing me with their posts! Read more here at our blog page: Here are some examples ranging the descriptions above: A student writes about the lab process.

Works Cited, References, and Bibliography - For a detailed treatment on citing sources using MLA style with many more examples, please use the official MLA Handbook: All information relating to MLA style as presented in this Web site has been based on this authoritative publication from the Modern Language Association of America.

Gibaldi, Joseph. MLA Handbook. 6th ed. New York: MLA, 2003. Works Cited is sometimes referred to as References. The terms mean the same thing. Each is an alphabetical list of works cited, or works to which you have made reference. Works Cited and Bibliography are not the same. Entries in Works Cited, References, or Bibliography are put in alphabetical order by last names of authors, editors, translators, etc. or by first words of titles.

If the first word of the title is "The", "A", or "An", and the word is being used as an article, e.g., in the title: The Little Book of Irish Clans, the entry is placed under "Little" and the article "The" is ignored. It’s not like I’m addicted or anything. I like eating food. But I don’t watch as much since Alton Brown’s Good Eats was moved to a weekday morning time slot. The only one-task item you need in your kitchen is the fire extinguisher. His argument? Yeah. I had a flashback to Alton Brown and Good Eats this morning while reviewing a new online tool I recently ran across called CiteLighter.

CiteLighter is a browser plugin that gives users the ability to collect online information, store it online, make comments on that information, add auto-researched Knowledge Cards to your project, automatically create a formatted bibliography from all of that information, edit that bibliography, share your project via email, export your project to Word, and learn tons of stuff / get an A in the process. It’s the ultimate Alton Brown multi-tasking tool. You can find some nice videos of the features here and FAQs here. Bibliography edit screen Like this: Tutorial: the photoessay | FLOW MEDIA. Today i wanna give you a short introduction on how to do a photoessay, based on my experiences, so as always there might be better or more compelling ways. So feel free to add those in the comments. The photoessay is also, when it comes to multimedia productions, the body of it as it tries to tell a story, so it is interesting to get a bit into that. Here are some ideas to think about. 1.

Topic: At first and before any further thoughts what pictures you might need, you should think about the topic. What is the story? What do you wanna tell with the pictures? 2. 3. 4. 5. The establishing shot gives you an introduction and shows you where the story is taking place. The medium shot is leading into the subject. The close-up is a classic detail shot, giving you important single parts of the story. The portrait is bringing the subject close and personal. The moment is giving you special moments of the story. This different parts don’t have to be in every photoessay in general. 6. 7. The Reflective Student: A Taxonomy of Reflection Part 2. Reflective student Reflection can be a challenging endeavor. It's not something that's fostered in school - typically someone else tells you how you're doing!

At best, students can narrate what they did, but have trouble thinking abstractly about their learning - patterns, connections and progress. In an effort to help schools become more reflective learning environments, I've developed this "Taxonomy of Reflection" - modeled on Bloom's approach. It's posted in four installments: 1.

A Taxonomy of Reflection 2. See my Prezi tour of the Taxonomy 2. Each level of reflection is structured to parallel Bloom's taxonomy. Taxonomy of reflection Bloom's Remembering: What did I do? Bloom's Understanding: What was important about what I did? Bloom's Application: When did I do this before? Bloom's Analysis: Do I see any patterns or relationships in what I did? Bloom's Evaluation: How well did I do? Bloom's Creation: What should I do next? Image credit: flickr/Daveybot Trackback URL. Lakeside School District - Schools Without Walls. Rushton's Resources.
