Comprehension in Meditation. This is a transcription of the audio lecture Meditation without Exertion 06 Comprehension originally given live on Gnostic Radio, which you can download for free. To continue our discussion of Meditation, first we remind you that the purpose of Meditation is to comprehend, to understand, to receive wisdom. In other words, we meditate in order to acquire information. This concept or understanding may be new to you because many traditions that discuss or teach Meditation in the west do not necessarily present the science of Meditation in this way. They may say that Meditation is to reach enlightenment, or to acquire powers, but in the Gnostic tradition we go directly to the point, the purpose or reason for Meditation, and we call it Comprehension.

Comprehension This word Comprehension is really significant, and in order for us to understand our Meditation practice, we need to understand what comprehension means. The same is true when you do something really good for someone else. Energy. Proof That Group Meditation Can Change The World | In5D. Meditation has the potential to literally transform the world. In 1978, what is known as the “Maharishi Effect” took place when a group of 7000 individuals over the course of 3 weeks were meditating in hopes of positively effecting the surrounding city.

They were able to literally transform the collective energy of the city which reduced global crime rates, violence, and casualties during the times of their meditation by an average of 16%. Almost 50 studies have been done further confirming the benefits of global meditation and it’s direct impact on everything in the world, even so far as to have the results published in the Journal of Crime and Justice in 1981.

When the study was repeated in Wales, they got amazing results. This effect is still ripe with investigation to this day. Source Chat Rules: 1. Doreenvirtuepodcast.com. Five Meaningful Methods of Meditation. In my last article, A Layman’s Guide to Mindful Meditation, we discussed the “why” of meditation. In this article we will discuss the “how.” There’s a myriad of methods for meditation. Some are easy and some are difficult. All require daily practice to perfect. Here are five of the most popular methods of meditation and what they each bring to the Meditation Table.

Here’s why You Should Mix them for Maximum Mindfulness. Mindfulness, or Spiritual Method: A most popular method comes from Buddhist meditation practice of Vipassana. How to: One can practice mindfulness in any position, even lying down. Zen or Zazen Method: Also from the Buddhist tradition, this method is all about simply sitting. How to: The most effective positioning of the body for the practice of Zazen is the stable, symmetrical position of the seated Buddha.

Kundalini or Transcendental Method: This method comes from the Vedanta Hinduism tradition and ties into different forms of Yoga practices. Drumming and/or Om Method: Vipassana ~ A Path to Self Awareness. Vipassana is the way to see things as they really are; it is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation that was rediscovered by Gautama Buddha more than 2500 years. He then taught vipassana as a way to enlightenment and a universal remedy for day-to-day problems. Vipassana saw a resurgence with S N Goenka, who after learning vipassana started teaching others in 1969. This has lead to a whole lot of vipassana institutions cropping up around the world that offer the 10-day course free of cost. Vipassana is a technique that will eradicate suffering, it is a method of mental purification which allows one to face life’s tensions and problems in a calm, balanced way. The path of Vipassana is not easy and during the course there are many who do not complete it.

The Origin and Spread of Vipassana:: Doing Time, Doing Vipassana: The Dhamma Brothers: Vipassana Experience: Here’s one of my friend’s Amit Ayre’s Vipassana experience, “It started off really well. The Vipassna Course: Heartache, Headache, and Meditation: What Are the Signs of a Practice Going Wrong? If your practice is wholesome and enjoyable, maintained with a sense of buoyancy and well-being, the chances are extremely remote that any problems that are catalyzed in meditation will become entrenched. Almost every case I have encountered of persistent problems in samatha practice is characterized by a lack of buoyancy and a reliance on sheer discipline. Typically, when samatha practice goes wrong, it gets heavy—frustrating and isolated, barren and dark. You may feel you have to muscle your way through, and of course that makes it worse. Physical tension, aches and pains, are not necessarily indications of a problem.

In the early stages especially, tension in the body may be brought on more by the mind than by muscle fatigue, or some other purely physical factor. People’s knees may hurt when they are meditating and feel fine at any other time, even if they are sitting motionlessly for long periods of time. Part of the mind wants an excuse. Why would this happen?
